    Hi everybody
    I’m new to the program, and before actually starting making decisions, I decided to read the whole program and decide what is best for me. Plus, the day I joined, just had bought everything from the supermarket.

    I have to understand everything, before making any choices, since I live in Switzerland, a latina from Central America which loves to eat Tortillas Nixtamalizadas. These tortillas are the ones which are eaten all over the mayan world, meaning Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, HONDURAS, Nicaragua and Costa Rica. The meaning of Nixtamalization (comes from the process of which the Tortilla (Corn)-Flour is made. process for the preparation of maize (corn), or other grain, in which the grain is soaked and cooked in an alkaline solution, usually limewater, and hulled. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nixtamalization). These days you can just buy Maseca, which is exactly the same thing.

    I know now, I shouldn’t take Flour-tortillas, since they are made with Refined flour.

    So, having summarized a bit about it. I want to know if you recommend it. And the portions I should/could eat.

    Hi, Anahint. If you don’t use GMO corn and the alkalinizing agent is in fact limewater (and not a caustic chemical), I think these are great! Just substitute them for the SWG wraps when you get your menus from the Menu Planner application.

    Need recipe for making tortillas from maseca? What do you use for lard? What about consistency of the dough?

    Anahint – What is a nice girl like you (Latina) doing in a place like that? It must be a great adjustment for you living in a different cultural county. You have some wonderful varieties of veggies, cheeses and other great options. How are you doing? You seem to be very careful with your choices. Good luck.

    Hi Girls,
    thanks for your posts. Actually, every time I made from Maseca it has become a huge disaster. I’m buying them in the Market in Berne, although they’re quite expensive, so I better learn to do it the right way. When I make them, I just add water and a bit of salt, then make the dough trying no to pour to much water (that’s when everything goes wrong! Too much water). The moment the dough sticks to your hand, then that’s a little too much.

    inastrvl I came here 15 years ago as exchange volunteer. I wanted to learn german, I got I little too much from what I asked for. Since I was already 27 and without any engagement back home, I fall in love and stayed here. So, you can see how easily is was to stay. But it is not easy in many other ways, I mean all my family is back home and the culture is so much different. I can’t even find Hershey’s kisses here… hahahaha, I shouldn’t think about them now that I’m changing my way around food!

    So hope you are doing fine.

    AH! Just something else. I’ve lost 4 1/2 pounds in the last couple of weeks. And I’m loving the food the program offers.
