    Hello,
Is popcorn healthy? I like to pop the Amish variety with a tablesoon of olive oil and cayenne pepper. Would love to know if this is sabotaging my healthy eating and weight loss. Thanks.

Hi, Sparkyjo. Popcorn can be great. It is best if it is organic, of course, due to modern changes in conventional corn.
The way you prepare it sounds excellent. About 2-1/2 cups of the popcorn itself is equal to a carbohydrate exchange (like a slice of bread), and each teaspoon of oil is equal to a fat exchange.

Thanks for this question, I love popcorn but thought I had to illuminate it all together.

Is it OK to have the 94% fat free microwave popcorn?

    #12533

Hi, Operagirl. Microwave popcorn can be a great snack. It is best if there is no butter flavor, for health reasons not related to weight. A serving would be about 3 cups.

I thought corn of any kind was bad for us!

Hi, Thiapam. Regular non-organic corn is not recommended, nor are non-organic corn additives to foods, especially corn syrup. Fresh organic (or even “sweet” corn) or organic popcorn are fine in moderate amounts.
