col42hugMemberWhy am I not loosing weight. I lost 2kg first week, then gained 1kg second week. Stationary this week. Am following menu to the with exception of sometimes using a different fruit type, depending on supply and cost. I walk 2.5k every day but am not always active during the day as I am retired and have little to do except garden and housework.

anndiet13MemberI understand your frustration. I believe you have the same body type that I do. Any time I try to cut down on my calories to lose weight, my body immediately goes into starvation mode and hangs on to all my fat cells and I either do not lose weight or end up even gaining. Your first instinct is to go eat chocolate! But, you have to be persistent. The weight will come off. Keep doing what you know is right. It may take a while but if you are losing a small amount each month, you will eventually get there. Concentrate on being healthy instead of losing weight. Forget about the scale. Stop weighing yourself and becoming disappointed. You will start to see your clothes fitting differently. Eventually your body will realize that you are serious about eating right and the weight will come off. You can do this. I have been on the plan now for four months and have lost 15 lbs. I want to lose 50 lbs in a year. Don’t set goals that are unrealistic. Think of this plan as a way of eating for the rest of your life, not a diet that you will some day go off of. Good luck.

col42hugMemberThank you. I seem to be eating so much in comparison to what I used to eat although I only eat what I print out on the menu. I even weigh instead of measuring foods, eg; vegetables/fruit. Instead of measuring a cup, I weigh the equivalent in grams. I have not set myself any time frame,only a target of losing approximately 15-20kg. My initial weight used to be 54kg but I realise that is possibly not what will be best for me in my senior years.

AnnMarie1963MemberI seem to fit this body type also, nice to know I’m not the only one struggling. I’ve just added zumba 2 times a week. But I get that my body is not taking me seriously right now & that I must be patient. Thank You

sogoodluckMemberI am not losing weight either. I am trying to follow as closely as I can to the menus but have been sitting at the same weight for 2 weeks. Glad to hear that I am not the only one that is not losing.

Ossie-SharonMemberHi to all. The most common reason for not losing weight when starting this program is past dieting. If you were on restrictive diets before, it takes time for your body to get used to normal amounts of food, and Anndiet13 alludes to this (thanks!). The wait can be annoying, but is an important investment in future long-term maintenance (and usually lasts for much less time than it took to gain the weight).
Later reasons include backsliding in portion control, and of course, natural plateaus. The most effective way out of a plateau is to change an exercise routine to get your body out of its complcency (in other words, it might be too used to your activity,a and no longer sees it as effort). Beneficial changes include increasing the time, frequency, and/or intensity of the exercise, and/or to switch the type to something that will work new muscles – even if temporarily. Col42hug, if you have been walking for a long time, this may apply to you. If you want help with this, you can post your query in the “Fitness” forum, and an exercise specialist will get back to you.
Sogoodluck, I’m not sure what your experience here has been so far, are you two weeks into the program, or did you initially lose and then stop?

_____I’ve been following this diet for about 3 months now. I was pretty disheartened to start with as first week I put on 2 lbs. Following week I lost four. Then I put on 2. Then eventually I lost more, but it’s been very slow going. I found it frustrating that so many people were saying they’d lost 5lbs in a week and I was piddling along. However, while I was religiously doing all the meals to plan but suppers I was having to not be as rigid as I’m also feeding my hubby who wouldn’t eat some of the stuff (and he’s not needing to lose weight, if anything he needs to gain). So I would make healthy dinners but just portion control it carefully for myself. I also skipped the evening snack as I felt I don’t want it or need it.
So my weight loss has been 1/2 lb per week – I’ve lost 7lbs in total since I started.
I also go to the gym and ride my horse several times a week. According to my nutritionist / personal trainer friend (who has been quietly advising me on the side – approves of the diet even though she’s not a member) that my own body type puts on muscle very easily, therefore weight loss not so quick but body shape changes noticeable.
Other thing is too – I’ve had the odd thing NOT on the diet (meals out, the odd dessert – the other day donuts). I don’t feel bad – I just call it life. However my mantra is that I want to lose the weight more than I want the sweets or whatever. I don’t feel hungry so the temptation is less anyway.
So I do think this works, just stick with it.

anndiet13MemberGood for you, Marg. I think the best thing we can remember is that this is life and there will be challenges and we aren’t perfect. And this is a learning tool. We have all tried and failed before and went back to our bad ways of eating. I know I have . . . many times. But the Trim Down Plan is the right way to eat and your body will respond to it the right way. It will take time. The older you get, the harder it is to come off. It didn’t go on in two weeks; it ain’t coming off in two weeks either. Hang in there. We can do this!!!

col42hugMemberStill no weight loss this week again although I measured myself as my clothes felt looser and have lost a couple of centremeters around bust, waist and hips. This week I have found myself feeling hungry even though I have just eaten. Have been drinking water +++++++ in an endeavour to quelch this feeling. Have also ticked low sugar on the diet to see if that made any difference, which turns out to be a hunger even when full (having just eaten a meal.) Will just have to keep trying. I have not been in the habit of trying diets and have only just decided to loose this weight I have put on since retiring. I have not usually had a need to watch my weight. I am a healthy being and not suffering from any fluid retention or anything.

Ossie-SharonMemberHi, col42hug. If you are seeing real results, it is best to not pay attention to the scale. After all, you are after a reduction in size and looking and feeling better, bottom line.
If you have a chance, perhaps you would like to consider some additional physical activity, which may boost your efforts. Even taking a walk for 20 minutes every other day can make a difference.
Keep in mind that if you exercise, muscle that you may acquire is heavier than the fat you will lose – so at early stages of the game, the scale may not move, even if the fat is coming off.September 23, 2013 at 3:10 am #15129
col42hugMemberJust been listening to one of your talks on the computer and wonder if the fact that I have chanced from fresh milk to long life could be the cause of my problem of not loosing weight. Because I am unable to consume lactose, I have reverted to long life lactose free milk as it is $1 cheaper than fresh lactose free milk and more affordable. Will try the fresh lactose free light milk in the next week and see if that makes any difference. At 70 almost 71yrs I am finding the 5 day a week walk is all I can cope with. Toward the end of the week I usually need to take a nap during the day following this exercise. I will keep trying. I am weighing not measuring all foods so that I am not overeating on anything and sticking to the menu I print out each week. I do not tick foods which are currently costly so that they are not added into my menu.

Long-life is ultrapasteurized, so something fresher may have more probiotic value and better support your weight loss efforts. You can also find another source source of probiotics, such as fermented vegetables.
Regarding exercise, DEFINITELY don’t worry about big changes all at once. It probably has less to do with age than it does with weight and not being used to it. Tiny changes do add up, so just ease into it. Same thing with expensive foods – don’t worry about it. col42hugMemberI am becoming so despondent about this diet! No matter how faithfully I follow the foods and amount to be eaten in each day (unable to always have them at time menu suggests) I am still not loosing weight, have started to increase in size and have in the last week put on 1kg. For a low cholesterol diet, there is an awful lot of cholesterol foods, eg; cheese, yogurt in the diet and I cannot believe the amount of starchy type foods, eg; potato and breads, etc which I eat each day. Not sure what this diet is meant to do, but certainly not assist to loose weight when normally not a rubbish food eater during life.

Ossie-SharonMemberHi, col42hug. I looked at your menu, and if you can’t increase your physical activity, you can reduce your menu a little, since you may actually need less. If you are concerned about carbohydrates, you can eliminate an exchange at each of the major meals.
For example, 1 cup of oatmeal in the morning, instead of 1-1/2 cups; 1/2 cup potato at lunch instead of a full cup, and have just the starchy vegetable at dinner without the extra slice of bread.
See if that helps.
Regarding the food choices, there is actually not a lot of cholesterol or carbohydrates in your menu. Overall, it is low in both. - AuthorPosts
