I am on lots of medications as I have fibromyalgia, low potassium, a-fib, fractured pelvis, osteoarthris. Do you know if there are medications that will interfere with the success of this plan?

Hi, Deborah. If you are taking medications that require certain food omissions, staying on top of that and avoiding related side effects will help you in this program – and the flexibility here will definitely let you do that.
Other than that, two medication issues have come up, with thyroid replacement and steroids, neither of which you are probably taking according to what you wrote. With these, it is just a matter of being in balance, but the program can still work.
If you wish to list your medications here, I can check things out for you.

I’m on prednisone ( a steroid) and was told that no amount of dieting would help my weight loss. Any comments or articles to read?

Hi, Deborah. With those medications, it is recommended to avoid grapefruit and orange juice, and to get plenty of fluids. They should not interfere with your efforts here.

Hi, Pjh1. You can juice whatever foods to include in your menus. If you would like help with what foods are high in potassium, please repost, and I’ll help you there.

    *”choose” whatever foods…

Hi, margr. Steroids do make weight loss more challenging, but not impossible. This program is actually designed to support metabolic issues similar to those relevant to steroid intake. We focus on fairly low carbs, high protein and good fats, which is the best for your situation.

Hi, I take several meds, synthroid, norvasc, novolin 70/30 in the morning, and novolin 70/30,atenolol,cymbalta in the evening. 8 years ago half of my thyroid was removed. I have put on fifty lbs since then, thirty within the first six months of surgery. I was quite upset because it took me 8 months of diet and exercise to lose it just prior to the surgery. I haven’t been able to lose more than 5 – 10 lbs and that keeps yoyoing. I have my blood work checked every 6 months and the doctor says my thyroid level is fine. I hope this plan works where others have failed.

Hi, GrannyCaz. First, try to avoid grapefruit juice with your Norvasc – it may exaggerate the effects in an unpredictable manner.
Second, the 70/30 should not conflict with this program because the principles here are based on diabetes care – however, of course, do check your sugars and be in regular contact with your healthcare provider if you need adjustments there.
As for the thyroid issue and medication – again, regular contact with your healthcare provider for adjustments is very important to weight management success, which I’m sure you know. Beyond that, it is recommended to limit intake (eat in very small amounts) of foods considered “goitrogens,” which work against the medication. These are as follows:
Soy, cruciferous vegetables (Brussels sprouts, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower), kale, spinach, mustard Greens, and radishes; some fruits, such as strawberries and peaches; and peanuts.
The most goitrogenic of these are soy, broccoli and cauliflower.
