FattiestPuffMemberIs there a simple guide which tells you what nutrition value a food and the recommended portion size. For instance, what is the value for a cup of cooked chickpeas? A lot of the foods are not available where I am and I would like to judge wht to substitute.

FattiestPuffMemberThank you so much for this; where could I have found this link?

smsupersuperMemberIt is not on the site that we know of yet. Ossie has given it to us. My suggestion would be to save it to your favorites.

maryoelklausMemberI am skeptical on whether I can do this. I walk bent over with back problems, therefore very limited with exercise. I also have read some
of the food plans and there are foods I have never heard of or cannot afford. Am I right for this program? MOJanuary 15, 2014 at 1:55 am #17400
blessingcatcherMemberHi, Mary! Welcome to the best program on this planet! 😉 Yes, you can do this. Many of the people on this site have physical issues … many are nearly immobile at this point. But they have plans to change that! 😉 You CAN lose the weight without the exercise, but even a little exercise will help you, if you possibly can. There are all kinds of simple things you can do, even from a chair. And, as far as the foods, those can be switched for things you ARE familiar with. The quickest way I know of is in the group “Successful Beginnings and Support, too”. In it, under the palm tree, there is “forum”. If you go to that, it has several articles highlighted in pink that are valuable to newcomers. Check out the one for working with your menu and switching out foods. 🙂 Hope this helps a bit. jan

Ossie-SharonMemberHi, Mary (and thanks, BlessingCatcher – great photo, by the way!). In the Fitness forum, you can post and get tips from our fitness specialist, who can help brainstorm to find exercises that won’t aggravate any limitations. There are many people in this program going through the same thing.
Regarding the foods, check out health-oriented shops such as Whole Foods Market or online at Amazon to find them – or you can tell me where you live, and I will help there, too.
The fact that some of the foods are less well-known is their advantage, in that they have been less manipulated and so are more nutritious and supportive of weight management. If you would rather, you could just upgrade what you are eating now, i.e. whole grain versions of refined foods, etc. – if the taste and texture take some getting used to, make the switch gradual by mixing them and gradually increasing the proportion of the whole grains.January 15, 2014 at 11:46 am #17407

Ossie-SharonMemberHi, Flossie. The awkwardness is only at the beginning. Give it some time, and you can find the recipes that make the ingredients worth your while. Do take advantage of our searchable online recipe collection.
