I joined a few days ago. I’m vegetarian. The menu planner lists Soybeans, (so far, so good) and Fermented Fuyu. I checked at our local health foods store. They are as clueless as I am about Fermented Fuyu. Can anyone help me? Thanks!

Hi, citykitty. Fu is similar to seitan – which you may known as “wheat meat – but in contrast to seitan, fu still has some of the starch components of wheat in it. Because it has the properties of both bread and protein, it can soak up seasonings very well to give a texture similar to meat.

Thanks for your reply. I’ve just gained a few pounds….is this normal?

Hi, citykitty. If you have been on deprivation diets before, weight gain does sometimes occur after returning to normal portion sizes, which we do encourage here. To get over this, you may try to make some changes to your exercise routine to work some new muscles, or insert half a minute here and there of higher intensity exercise a few times during a workout session.

Ditto on the soybean fermented fuyu question. What do I buy? How do you cook, prepare or eat it? Thanks

Hi, Carla. It is available at Asian markets, in the jarred foods section (ask a clerk). It is used like very soft cheese, either spread on crackers (or you can make “mac and cheese”) with it. Just keep in mind that it is very, very high in sodium.

Just a suggestion , but take a look at your menu and see if you are using zylitol or ketchup, bbq sauce… ketchup and bbq sauce count as a whole carb!!! A whole piece of bread!!! It counts as a whole piece of bread!!! 1 tsp of zylitol counts as 1/3 carb. These sneaky carbs will get you every time. Salad dressing!! same way! Debbie Good luck and God blessWhen I first starting I was using 2 zylitol in every glass of tea which I drank non stop!!! I was drinking about 3 pieces of bread a day. No wonder it took awhile to start losing!!:P

Am new and am confused about rice protein powder. Found some made by NutriBiotic that says Rice Protein – Plain. Gluten Free, 80 percent protein, Vegan. Says RAW. What does that mean? Do I have the wrong thing? Says Enzymatically processed rice protein from whole grain sprouted brown rice.

I am way beyond child bearing age but it says not to take if pregnant as may cause birth defects or other reproductive harm. Says contains a chemical that causes it. That scares me. Do all rice protein brands say the same? On the diet 5 days and still not sure if I have the right product.

Is there some place on this site that explains to us what content we should be looking for when we go buy it? I have never bought protein powder before and it is so confusing at this point.

Hi, cmk1932, and welcome. That rice protein powder is fine as protein powders go. The raw means that the protein was extracted from uncooked and unprocessed rice – it’s not feeding you raw whole rice. Better yet, the rice was allowed to sprout before protein extraction, which is best.

Thank you for your answer and I appreciate your fast reply. I will start adding it to my smoothie this morning! I have been on the diet 6 days and have lost 5 lbs. This diet really works. I am pre-diabetic and my blood sugar which was borderline high is down 14 points. I couldn’t be happier.
