MemberI have fibromyalgia, cut out dairy products and soy in the last few years, looking to lose some weight. However, with my fibromyalgia, my exercise will be at a minimum, as it is like one step forward, two steps back. I try to keep my mind motivated and not let the fibro get me down. Eating better will make a difference, physically and mentally, but i worry I wont be able to exercise much. Walking is about what I can do. I have a stepper that I bought in the days before fibromyalgia. I will give it a go again but I wont be able to work up a sweat as it will put me in bed for a few days and then that defeats the point…. Little bits, often right? I am looking forward to eating healthier though.

MemberHi, Moominmama, and welcome! You absolutely have the right idea. Little improvements are still improvements, and they will add up. We wish you all the best 🙂

MemberMoominmama, I am new to the program too. I also have fibro. Having learned the hard way that exercise can be discouraging, to say the least, I have taken moderation as my motto. Between menopause and fibro I have put on 50 Lbs. I have cut out soy and most dairy as well. I am hoping the frequent, healthy meals will increase my energy levels so I can lose the weight and regain some of my normal lifestyle. I Have found Yoga (if you don’t push it) and gentle Balance Ball workouts, along with walking are exercises I can handle. Aerobics are a thing of the past unless I can spend the next 5 days in bed. Something I have found that is helping with the wgt and the fibro is good sleep. If you aren’t getting quality sleep it makes everything worse. I wish you the best and will follow your progress.

What a relief, someone who understands because she lives it herself. Bang on, everything you said is me too. I used to loooove walking miles and miles, but cant do it anymore. I bought a dog to push me outside and it does work well. I was thinking of taking up yoga too but worried they will get me to do something that will have me in bed for the next few days.
I have put on so much weight, but luckily being a middle aged woman, it does not bother me so much as it would a young woman, but my health is something I am concened about, especially as my kids see how I can get on a BAD day. I have been told my medication has made me put on weight, but I am not so sure how this could be. I just know I have slowed down, had to give up the job too, so not moving quick anymore. Moving, but more like a snail than a hare. Lovely to talk to you PeggyJKJuly 24, 2014 at 1:19 am #21911Ossie-Sharon
MemberLadies, have either of you considered acupuncture?

MemberI had acupuncture once, for migraines, it was not a good experience unfortunatley. You see, I have an acute fear of needles and I have only got a bit braver in the last few years.
Thanks again

MemberI ,too, have fibromyalgia. I never dreamed I would ever be in this much pain. When I asked my doctor about exercise he recommended u der treadmill therapy. It is wonderful. It takes full body weight off joints and anything that hurts. I can go for a mile or two before I get just a little bit tired. You can google water therapy or aquatic therapy to see if you have a physical therapy underwater treadmill gym in your area! Also getting rid of all chemicals in my diet has helped a lot!

MemberBesides the underwater treadmill , massage really helps also if you can find a good masseuse that will gently rub away the pain.

MemberThanks Debbie. Hope you are doing ok. I intend to follow the water therapy idea up definitely. I cant do massage on the back or shoulders as it starts my headaches off. However, my hubbie does massage my arms and legs and that is wonderful as long as he is in the mood. the other thing I do and it has become my religion is pandiculation. My dog taught me to do it. I do it every morning and it breaks right through the pain first thing in the morning, enough to get me out of bed.
I cut out lots of stuff from my diet years ago, but I am still learning. I cut out sweeteners last year after a friend told me that might be the reason I get my headaches. So I did and my headaches went very quickly after. I have been fine for the last 8 months but I have put on a lot of weight and I think that could be down to replacing no added sugar squash with Ribena (full sugar). Both myself and my son have been drinking it like it is about to be made illegal. hence a huge weight gain. So i cut it out recently and stupidly went back on no added sugar drink until I could think what to do. The headaches returned very quickly. So I thought : even though I hate the taste of water, I have to drink water. I have been drinking just water and I now love it and can even taste my food more. I still drink my green tea with one sugar, so maybe now that my tastebuds have adpated, I will cut out that one spoonful of sugar.

MemberHave you tried Stevia or monkfruit for sweetener? I have quit drinking all sodas and all sugar free drinks. I sweeten my tea with Stevia and my plain yogurt with stevia of all flavors., lemon, grape, blueberry, and many others/! It and monkfruit are the only non caloric sweeteners that are natural and not chemical!

MemberIf you use too much Stevia it has a funky flavor. but if you figure out how much you can use and like it it is wonderful. It is a LOT sweeter than Sweet’n low.

MemberI also have fibromyalgia and have finally found something that has helped my pain tremendously. I am drinking an alkaline, anti-oxidant, hydrogen saturated and oxidation reduced water that can actually hydrate your cells in the body like no other water can. This process assist your body with rebuilding itself and decreases the pain. It detoxifies and neutralizes acidity in your body and disease cannot live in an alkaline body. I call this the best “pain pill” on the market. If you would like more information, you can send me an email to togging@yahoo.com.

MemberI am a newbe (today) and also have fibro. It can be very discouraging at times. I have found that I have to listen to my body and pace myself. If I don’t pace myself then I pay the price with increased pain and fatique. All we can do is take it one step at a time and keep improving our health. My doc prescribed me a new med about a month ago and it really is helping. Tryed many meds and this is the first one that has helped. It is called nortriptaline and blocks the pain pathways to the brain. Don’t like taking meds but this one gave me my life back. Hope this can help others.

MemberHello,
I have fibro, rsd, arthritis, scoliosis and neuropathy, which are very much related(Nervous system as well as muscle disorders). It is very disabling to me due to the fact that I am fatigued easily and the pain is terrible specially when I get flare ups.
The following are things that I do to relieve my pain:
The medications that I take are gabapentin and lamotrigine.
Supplements that I take-glucosamine and chondroitin, syberian ginseng, green tea extract, women’s multivitamins.
Changes in my diet-I reduced my intake of sweeteners, foods that are fattening(bad fats), wheat products and caffeine.
I add thai curry to some of my meals.
For exercise-The only activity that I was able to perform for years was light walking a stretching. Everything else that I tried did not work for me(medications and other forms of therapy).
I decided to give it a try in June, 2014 so I joined a gym and hired a trainer for two months. I feel stronger. The pain is terrible but I keep positive and keep going. The exercises are tailored for my situation.
I will try physical therapy to see if the combination will help this time.
I hope that what I have shared may help you.
I welcome suggestions and comments.
Thank You.
