I live in Scotland and having just joined and filled in the menu planner I find that a lot of the choices are very “American” and therefore not based on local produce. What is SWG? for instance and I like goats cheese but not for breakfast – I normally have a boiled egg on toast – which I enjoy every day and on a Sunday I enjoy a cooked breakfast – which again I could tweak but the meat section mentions sausages I have never heard of! Can this plan be adapted for a more “British” diet please and include the types of foods that are more common here – “Canadian Bacon”??? what is that? and how does it compare to our Bacon?? I am keen to start but am very confused by the choices – can you give me a list of “acceptable” bread for instance? Grass fed mince – where do you buy this? etc etc

Hi, MariaSmeaton. The foods in the program were actually selected from around the world. They are not as well known because they are less mass-produced (and so less manipulated), which is part of their advantage in terms of healthy weight management. This includes some foods special to the UK, i.e. crumpets, etc. SWG is just our own abbreviation for sprouted whole grain, which can be anything – in Scotland and the rest of the UK, it is just sprouted _____ (but do be sure that it is whole grain), for example: http://www.realfoods.co.uk/product/7789/organic-sprouted-wheat-bread. Canadian bacon is just a general term in some countries for non-streaky bacon. In the UK, it would just be ham.
Please do take advantage of our UK shopping guide here: http://www.trimdownclub.com/where-to-buy-uk. One site in particular, http://www.GoodnessDirect.co.uk, has great explanations of each food.

Hi, Reenied. Go into “My Downloads” above, and in the main program area (the first), you can scroll down to find the 14-Day Express Meal Plans for various diets – including for Dairy-Free and for Gluten-Free needs. We do not yet have ready-made menus for both, but you can have your own generated for you by entering the Menu Planner application (in “Apps” above), and selecting the foods you want. If you checked “Dairy-Free” and “Gluten-Free” in your profile, you will only see appropriate foods.

Since I recovered from my bout with oral cancer, I’ve been left with swallowing difficulties. As a result, I’m quite familiar with smoothies. My go-to product has been a nutritional shake put out by EAS CARB CONTROL, containing 19g protein, 2.5m carbs, 100 calories; no sugar, no dairy, and a plethora of vitamins and minerals. The nutritional count is the same in all three flavors. To this, I add whatever fruit is in season, an aggressive squeeze of raw honey, cinnamon, a tray of ice and blend the life out of it. I usually drink it with my meal. It provides the required viscosity to propel the solid food. Can this be maintained on this plan?
P.S. I tried asking this question in the “Nutritional tips” forum but, as yet, have received no answer. It’s important to me that this be answered, since it’s impossible for me to eat without a thick beverage.
Also, Does the amount of ice used in a beverage impact the nutritional value? Your drink recipes are very specific as to the number of ices cubes to use. I usually use at least a tray of ice which provides volume and depth and stretches the drink over 2-3 meals.

Hi, Quantum. EAS Carb Control uses artificial sweeteners, which we generally don’t recommend because these can work against your efforts here. The rest of the formula and your recipe is fine – each shake would equal 1 protein + 1 fruit exchange. How many do you drink in a day? How is your swallowing overall – are solids comfortable?
