Tagged: Rye Bread
I purchased some different types of rye bread assuming they would be whole grain but then noticed the first ingredient on each of them was enriched flour. Are these rye breads recommended when on the Trim Down Club menu or should I purchase whole grain rye flour? And, is there such a thing as whole grain rye flour because I have not found any yet? Thank you.
Rye is excellent, and whole grain rye is preferable, of course. They sell both the bread and the flour at Whole Foods Market(there’s one in Indianapolis) as well as on Amazon.com.
From experience, most Rye breads are made with bleached, enriched, or wheat flour which basically means you wont be getting the bran & germ that you should be from rye bread. Make sure you check the ingredients. You want it to be made with Ground rye flour and/or ‘whole’ wheat flour, and the package should have “100% whole grain” on it.
