Memberi’d like to analyze my current menu choices to see where i am off and what i should continue. for example, i have the same breakfast and lunch every day (and i enjoy these). how does what i currently eat fit, or not fit, into the plan? what adjustments do i need to make? dinners tend to vary based on family tastes and those recipes we store in our back pocket b/c they can be throw together quickly. i love the idea of the menus generated by my choices and have explored this, but i don’t want to solely rely on them. i’d rather use the base knowledge provided so i know how to eat when i am not fully in control of the menu (i.e. parties).
i feel like this is a dumb question but… i’m not sure specifically how many proteins, carbs, healthy fats, etc. i need to eat with each meal? so, to back it up, first question – what food groups are required (i.e. protein, fat, etc.) with each meal? what is required for snacks? and then, how much is required of each? i feel like without having this foundational knowledge, i’m struggling to swap foods. did i miss something or is there an article on this?
thanks, much!

MemberHi, Meegsie, and welcome! The menus are generated according to a pattern calculated according to your needs, and produce a score according to your individual food choices – anything above 80 is considered good. You can raise this score by selecting foods that are in the lighter blue shades. If you want a sense of the sizes of portions and number recommended from each group, you can click on “Exchange mode” in the toolbar above your finished menu, and compare it to this list: http://www.trimdownclub.com/exchanges-lists.

MemberI am struggling wit this too. Often the substitute items don’t list something that is clearly in the same food group. More control of what is in the menu from the list of foods is what I am looking for. I am documenting what I actually eat in the food logbook, but I would love to be able to calculate the values from there. Any ideas? or things I have missed?

MemberHi, cfucito. Just to be clear – had you selected those alternative foods when you went through the Menu Planner lists? In any event, I will forward your query to tech support. In the meantime, you may wish to build certain meals from “scratch” – you can do this by clicking on the circular arrow icon at the top right corner of each meal in your finished menu.
