I have a question. I am about to go on a 14 day fast with my church, we are doing one meal a day. I wanted to know how do I fast without my body going into starvation with one meal a day? I need to know so I can do it the right way, thank you!

    Hi, Pastor Hickley.
    1. Throughout the day, be sure to drink plenty of water if it isn’t off limits. If green tea is an option, that’s good, too.
    2. During your one meal, the following are helpful:
    – Plenty of high-quality protein – if you have access to pastured beef and eggs, that’s great, but if not – lean meats
    – Yogurt with live cultures (again, pastured is best)
    – Minimal carbohydrates – favor high-fiber items and root vegetables (other than white potato) when you do eat them
    – Best vegetables: cruciferous (unless you are hypothyroid), including Brussels sprouts, cauliflower – best with a mustard-based sauce
    – Lots of spices if you can handle it – especially chili pepper. If have empty capsules, you can just fill them with it – to about half a teaspoon a day, but divided throughout the day.

I hope this helps. Please do let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you Ossie-Sharon that was very helpful, I’m working on it now.

I really appreciate this information… I have never been able to fast because I was convinced I had to have whole foods due to so many medications I am on. I have discovered that juicing and green smoothies work beautifully for me. My question is: I drink 4-5 16 oz. smoothies per day when I am fasting and 8 glasses of water. I only use veggies and protein powder. Is this type of smoothie acceptable on this diet…whether it is for a full day of fasting or, just a substitute for salad’s on a regular day menu? Blessings, judi
