Hi, I have been recieving emails from TDC staff member Amber Mink which are links to external websites promoting supplements, but I didn’t think supplements were included in the Trim Down Club plan? We are doing really well following the TDC menu plan eating lots of new nutricious foods and have cut out all the man made processed foods, but aren’t supplements full of man made chemical? Does the Trim Down Club recommend for it’s members to take supplements, if not then why are you promoting them to your members through these emails? I’m a little confused?

Hi, Esmile. Those ads are just recommendations for people who are interested, and are in response to the many requests we get for guidance in making supplement selections. Some people just like to take them as a back-up plan, sort of like insurance. If you don’t feel like you need any of them, no worries.

I was hoping you would tell us if we need them or not, we aren’t sure? From your reply I take it you don’t recommend members take supplements in conjunction with the food plans on this website? Under what cirumstances would you tell someone to take supplements?

Hi, Esmile. First, note that the formulae suggested are all based on natural ingredients, not synthetic chemicals, so no worries – some have been used in traditional medicine and confirmed in conventional research, and others are nutrients that may be essential in certain health or lifestyle conditions. Second, regarding individual recommendations, an example would be that if your dietary omega-3 intake is very low (little-to-no fish, certain green leafy vegetables, or certain nuts and seeds), it is advised by the American Heart Association to take omega-3 supplements. If you are a diabetic or pre-diabetic or have hit a weight loss plateau (especially if you have been on restrictive diets in the past) and wish to give yourself an extra preventive or metabolic edge, formulae such as IC-5 or Leptiburn may be helpful. None of these supplements is a replacement for the type of healthy eating recommended in the program, but rather they may support your body in making up for genetic or acquired disadvantages in pursuing your efforts here.
