Are there any specific foods which cause headaches, and any foods which help make headaches disappear?
Hi, Esmile. If you have specific sensitivities and/or genetic issues, then yes. The most common of these are the following:
– aspartame (which we recommend to avoid in any event)
– foods with artificial additives (which we also recommend to avoid)
– processed meats
– organ meats
– smoked or dried fish
– some cheeses, especially aged (blue, brie, cheddar, Stilton, feta, gorgonzola, Muenster, parmesan, Swiss)
– fermented dairy (e.g., buttermilk)
– alcohol
– dried fruit and some fresh fruits including ripe bananas, citrus fruits, papaya, red plums, raspberries, kiwi, pineapple
– certain beans (fava, broad, garbanzo, lima, pinto)
– caffeine (caffeine “withdrawal” can also cause headaches, as can “detoxing” from a diet high in processed foods)
– yeast-raised baked goods
– monosodium glutamate (MSG)
Try eliminating them one at a time to see if there is any change. If not, I suggest consulting with a health care provider who can give you an in-person evaluation.
