MemberHi,
Is this diet suitable for Hypothyroidism? I know exercise if the key to also help as it speeds metabolism which helps underactive thyroids.May 14, 2017 at 11:24 pm #38709Ossie-Sharon
MemberHi, Amanda. Hopefully your healthcare provider is following your case, including blood levels of thyroid hormones and need for medical adjustment, as normal levels are key to healthy weight management
Our program is definitely suitable, not only because we encourage exercise and foods that support hormonal health, but also because our menu-building Menu Planner application allows you to limit foods that may interfere with thyroid function and/or medications.
Just go into the “My Menu” area (http://www.trimdownclub.com/menu-planner), and click on “My Food Choices” in the toolbar above the menu to star making choices. When you’re finished, scroll to the bottom and click “SAVE AND CREATE MENU.”
Foods that are recommended to be limited or adjusted are high in “goitrogens,” which can negatively impact people with hypothyroid disease, including those taking thyroid replacement medication.
Green leafy green and “cruciferous” vegetables are naturally high in goitrogens, though light steaming lessens the impact.
The following should be limited to small amounts:
Bamboo shoots
Canola (rapeseed)
Cassava (tapioca), when crushed and not detoxified by soaking
Cruciferous vegetables: Bok choy and other green leafy vegetables such as collards, kale and spinach; Broccoli and related vegetables, Brussels sprouts, Cabbage, Cauliflower—note that the content of goitrogens can be reduced through steaming, without significant loss in nutritional value
Flax seed
Horseradish
Kohlrabi
Millet
Peaches
Peanuts
Pears
Pine nuts
Rutabagas (swedes)
Soybeans (and soybean products such as tofu, soybean oil, soy flour, soy lecithin)
Strawberries
Sweet potatoes
