I have an organic protein powder I like to blend with a banana and chocolate almond milk or yogurt. How do I incorporate this into the diet/menu? I tried using the exchange but you don’t have any protein powder listed. When incorporating healthy recipes from other sources like cookbooks or family members do I just make sure my exchanges are the same? What happens if I’m off by a little bit?
Hi, Spanielfan. Yes – just make sure the exchanges are pretty much the same (they can be off by a little bit). The exchange information is as follows:
1 carb exchange = 15 grams of carbohydrates + up to 3 grams of protein
1 protein exchange = 7 grams of protein + up to 5 grams of fat
1 fat exchange = 5 grams of fat
1 fruit exchange = 15 grams of carbohydrates
1 vegetable exchange = 5 grams of carbohydrates + up to 2 grams of protein
1 sweet exchange = up to 15 grams of carbohydrates + up to 5 grams of fat
1 free exchange = up to 5 grams of carbohydrates or up to 2 grams of protein or fat
