MemberWe are Chinese and would like to know how Asian foods and sauces can be substituted. For example, oyster sauce, soy sauce, teriyaki sauce, hoisin sauce, etc. Thanks, YT2252

MemberHi, YT2252. Be sure to use the fully personal version of the Menu Planner application, which you can access by clicking on the “My Food Choices” icon (an apple) in the toolbar above your menu. There, you can select the basic main foods to go into your menus, which will appear generically for you to prepare however you wish – protein foods, rice, vegetables, etc. Spices and the sauces you listed are “free,” meaning you don’t need to count them, just add them and enjoy (see the “Free” food section in the Menu Planner) – IF they have minimal sugar, e.g. 2 grams per tablespoon for the saltier sauces, and up to 9 grams for the hoisin. We also recommend to read labels to be sure there are no undesirable chemicals in them, and select options that “all natural” and -again- with a minimal amount of sugar. Sweet-and-sour sauce is trickier, and will need to be counted the same as a salad dressing.
