mastrjo
MemberI just joined and was going through the food choices, i.e. what I eat and what I like. The problem is I am overseas. I do not have access to a lot of these foods on my budget (eggs are $0.32 each), and many of the choices do not appeal to me. In addition, I have celiac. I do not function well on carbs – even if I have a few Hershey’s kisses (chocolate) I tend to get very drowsy. I also have hypothyroidism, which my doctor says may be the reason for the inability to lose weight, but upping my script will not help that.
I am wondering if this was a good choice for me, or if it really can be adapted so I can lose weight at 61.

MemberHi, mastrjo. Don’t worry about foods that don’t suit you, or that aggravate your hypothyroid. If you use the fully personal version of the Menu Planner menu-building application, you will be brought to longer lists of foods from which you can make selections. You can reach that version by clicking on the “My Food Choices” icon in the toolbar above your menu. To make the lowest carbohydrate choices, try the foods in the lighter blue shades – note that there is a difference between the refined sugar in candy (such as Hershey’s kisses) and the complex carbohydrates in legumes and brown rice (those foods can also be quite inexpensive).
As for the thyroid issue, if you would like guidance with food selections, please do repost here, and I would be happy to help.July 21, 2018 at 1:23 pm #41571jandotts
MemberI just joined, I work 12 hour shifts. I have to plan my meals and food for the whole week. How do I plan for the next week if my meal plan when it isn’t available to me yet? for example the first day of my week is Monday. I work this Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. If I don’t know my meal plan for the week until Monday how do I plan this week?

MemberHi, jandotts. All days of the week of your menu are available for you to view and print – click on the days to the left of the foods listed to view each day’s menu, and click the “Print Menu” icon on the right end of hte toolbar above the menu to print out all days.

MemberHi, MGB. Find the “My Food Choices” icon (an apple) in the toolbar above your current menu, and click on it to be brought to the selection area.

MemberI just started. When it says “2 servings of vegetables of your choice” what is the amount – 1/2 cup of each? Or some other measurement.
Also, I do drink a couple of cups of coffee a day with a few tablespoons of fat free creamer. Is that ok?July 24, 2018 at 2:39 am #41604khammerand
MemberHi. I started this program today. I set up my food choices as Vegetarian, but I do eat fish. How can I add seafood to my menu choices?

MemberHi, khammerand. It would be best if you just use the regular diet pattern and food lists, and just select the foods that work for you and avoid the foods you don’t eat.

MemberHi, msclacey. A vegetable serving size is 1 cup (240 ml) for raw or 1/2 cup (120 ml) for cooked.
Coffee with cream is fine, but we discourage fat-free creamers (and artificial creamers in general) because the chemicals can interfere with your efforts here. If you use up to 6 total tablespoons of whole milk each day, you will be fine. Would that work for you?July 25, 2018 at 8:10 pm #41624Muddy45
MemberI see no mention of alcohol or wine. Was told before non grain vodka or some red wine is acceptable. Does anyone know!?

MemberHi Everybody, I just joined today. I joined because I hat myself and how I look. So I’m giving this a try and I can b honest it is very hard for me to stick to these types of programs. I have to admit that this program is totally different because it molds to your likes and dislikes and I can substitute items with what I actually have in the cupboards and not go out and buy everything. I’m totally overweight with hypertension, high cholesterol, kidney disease and now I’ve had two spinal surgeries (fusions). I also found out I have two large tears in my spine as well. So my goal is to eat all the right things together. It doesn’t help that I don’t eat only but one meal a day at times. I’m not a breakfast person. I love my 1/2 coffee with creamer only. So My goal is to get back to my size 6 instead of a size 13-15. I wish everyone who is on here all the luck and happiness. Great success to all. 🙂

MemberMuddy 45: before I joined this program I was researching Low-carb diets and alcohol. So I found on line that 4 oz. Red is o.2 g carbs, 4 oz. white is 0.9g carbs, Bacardi rum has no carbs, and brandy has no carbs. what to balance with it would be up to the experts. I’m sure they will recommend no alcohol for now because it slows the metabolism.

MemberMy question is what about chicken liver and onions. I love that stuff. There are not too many people who do. I’m having tomatoes & cucumbers with it as well. Technically I signed up tonight but I’m actually doing my menu tomorrow.

MemberHi, Muddy45 and thibeaur. There is room for alcohol in this program if it will make things easier, though it is not a lot – simply the 1-2 drinks per day that is recommended by most health organizations around the world. If you use the personal version of the Menu Planner menu-building application, you can select alcoholic beverages in the “Beverage” lists of the “Carbohydrates” section (alcohol is not a carbohydrate, but the body processes it in a way between carbohydrate and fat). You can access the personal Menu Planner food lists by clicking on the “My Food Choices” in the toolbar above your menu.
