    I had an attack of gout before I started the plan and I think too much red meat and sugar may have brought it on. It is my third attack this year so I realize I need to change my unhealthy ways. It is ok to just eat chicken or fish where it call for beef?

    Hi, Readymom. Absolutely! To protect yourself even more against gout, stay away from anchovies, cod, herring, haddock, mackerel and sardines, as well as mussels, scallops, clams, squid, and shrimp.
