How does hummus count? I don’t see it on the “spreads.” Does it count as a substitute for cheese? If not, what can I substitute it for?
Hi, MarThornbury. Hummus counts as a legume. If you want, you can use it to substitute for cheese. Each 1/4 cup of hummus is equal to an ounce of cheese, though note that it has carbohydrates (each 1/4 cup = 1/2 carb exchange) and a bit less protein.
