ParticipantThis principle is, generally, the best when employed with knowledge in the area in which it is operated. In other words, the KISS principle solves many a problem but can cause problems as well. Such as my determined decision to change a way of life, loose 80 – 100 lbs. and leave pre/type 2 diabetes forever. I am reading a lot of articles on our TDC and elsewhere but am still asking the same question(s) what to buy, groceries mainly, what to stay away from “specificly”. I need to know what items specificly not just, “high cards” and “high sugars” or “starches”. You “foodademics” loose me and create stress for me. I need very basic instructions for RIGHT NOW. Is there such a list for two people , my wife and I, at 65+ years to check off as include or remove from diet. I want a simple list of items for a meal (each 5 of them per day) from basic food groups.
I will continue to read and will, eventually, gain understanding of the interrelationships down to the what to eat and what to not eat. I would love to have a list of the basic foods that are Keto friendly so that I could begin cooking and eatting today and learn the “why” as I go along. My cardiologist wants me off of potatos permanently. Other people say the same to carbs, dairy products and other general fields of food groups. My wife and I are happy with simple even basic meals. All this fancy food and expensive groceries are meant for the holidays. We are simple meat and potato and steamed vegies. So, I am asking for the grocery list of specific items in each food group and I will decide each meal. I say this because, God help us, I am the cook in this marriage. I come from a long line of meat, potatos, corn and very basic vegies like general frozen vegs found in the frozen food section, Lots of good breads, dairy products and gravies for meats, potatoes and certain vegs. So far, I have found out that all these carbs and sugar that I am consuming are killing me and I am crossing the line into type 2 biabetes. And I am way overweight. My dedication to this life change in healthy, knowledgeable eatting is strong but my understanding is insufficient to begin today. I don’t feel confident or comfortable in a preplanned menue calling for dishes or entrees totally foreign to me. I want to stick to simple menus starting out. Basic food group items that are Keto friendly untill I have the knowledge and understanding needed to be a wise chef.

MemberHi, bobschuckert. Have you seen this article? https://www.trimdownclub.com/what-to-eat-keto/. I think it may help answer your questions about keto-friendly foods.
If you want to make your current menu keto-compliant, access the subapplication of the Menu Planner by clicking on the edit tool (a pencil icon) on the right side of each meal header. Once in that area, select foods of your choice to match the food group exchanges listed, but swapping in two fat exchanges for each carbohydrate exchange.
You may find our sample menu helpful (http://www.trimdownclub.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/14-Day-Keto-Express-Meal-Plans.pdf) – it has some foods with which you may not be familiar, but it may help to become familiar with them (such as konjac noodles). Note, however, that the portion sizes may differ from those needed to meet your nutritional needs – it is still best to refer to your menu pattern (visible by clicking on “Exchange mode” in the toolbar above your menu) and list of exchanges (http://www.trimdownclub.com/exchanges-lists).
