How and what foods to buy off the grocery shelf
Hi, Sherry13. We recommend seeking minimally processed options, as close to the natural, whole form as possible, and without artificial additives or too much added sugar – you can check out the ingredients lists for this. If you are seeking complex readymade foods, be sure to check the label to make sure the ingredients meet the above criteria. The following is an example of the ingredients list for a decent frozen bean burrito product, to give you an idea:
Pinto beans, filtered water, unbleached wheat flour, brown rice, whole wheat flour, tomato purée, white cheddar and Monterey jack cheeses (pasteurized milk, culture, salt, enzymes), expeller pressed high oleic safflower and/or sunflower oil, onions, bell peppers, sweet rice flour, sea salt, wheat gluten, spices, garlic
