Dear Ossie:
Thanks for responding to my request about carbs for the meal planning session. I am 5’7″ tall, and weight 252 pounds and my weight loss goal is 50 pounds. However, I am pre-diabetic and my doctor wants me to stay around 200 carbs a day (balanced out over 3 meals and 2 snacks). I do test my glucose level twice a day, and it has stayed below 120 most of the time. I do try and walk each day for 15 minutes outside, but weather has been a factor. Can you help me with the carb counting? Thanks
Hi, Carmen. According to the diet pattern you’re given per your BMI and goal, you are allowed 250 grams of carbs per day. HOWEVER, if you want to cut back to 200 grams, you can swap some of your fruits for non-starchy vegetables, and forego a few sweets. Walking is the very, very best thing for you, and if the weather is poor, you can just walk in place in front of the TV – seriously, it’s better than any medicine.
