I am lactose intolerant. I have problems with milk, soft cheese, yogurt, etc. I have tried lactose-free milk, but appear to have more problems than just the lactose. Any suggestions for substitutes?
If you don’t mind the different taste, some lactose-intolerant people do better with goat’s milk.
Other than that, non-dairy lactose-free milks include those made from soy, almond, oat, rice, spelt, and hemp. Soy milk is the only one that has a significant protein content like dairy; it is very important to choose organic soy, to avoid genetic modification. If you choose any of these milks, look for fortification with vitamins and calcium.
