Hi there, I am actually Kristi, I used to work nights and thought I might be able to give you some insights. I have work nights and swings for most of my working career having worked in law enforcement and as an intelligence officer on a watch floor, to name just a few. I know it can be extremely daunting to keep a decent diet regime when doing shift work, the one thing I can tell you is planning is everything. I have worked 11 and 16 hour days, and sometimes with hour-long drives each way, so I know time is precious also when working shift work of anytime, because once you get home you just want to crawl into bed. I used work 2 or 3 days on with generally 2 days off in between the days I worked unless it was my 3 day weekend off, so I would plan ahead what I was going eat for those days I would be working while on my days off. I would plan breakfast, lunches, dinners and snacksas needed and have everything prepackaged in containers which I could then toss into my go lunch bag just before I left for my shift. I would prefill my plastic bottles with tea or infused water so they would also be ready go. If you are able to cook at work, just have everything you need ready in a bag, spices, veggies, etc.I found that if I had everything ready I was more apt to stay focused and eat right, and more importantly I actually got more sleep too. I don’t know how long your drive into work is, mine was just about an hour and I would actually amke a protein shake (I used one by GNC that has very high protein content) and I use almond milk to make it with to start me off on some good protein for my day.
