MemberOh I recall taking a ride with my family into the country. We had the chicken dinner and of course the rhubarb pie. We then went into the store and bought some jam. I went to Jr. and LA high. Santa Monica beach on the weekend with my friends and met at Hamburger Heaven, ruining my skin with baby oil and iodine. You brought back great memories.

Member2 RECIPES THAT YOU MIGHT LIKE. I THINK THEY SOUND LIKE WHAT WE SHOULD EAT.
Roasted Vegetable Soup
4 Servings
This delicious, vegetable-filled broth can be served by itself or used as a base for other soups. The vegetables used in this soup are often just added to soup liquids for cooking. This recipe oven-roasts them first, enhancing their flavor. Your kitchen will fill with the aromas of the roasting vegetables evoking old-fashioned, home-style meals. Comfort food at its finest.
Ingredients: 3 large carrots, peeled and coarsely chopped 3 stalks celery, coarsely chopped 1 large onion, coarsely chopped 1 tablespoon quality extra-virgin olive oil 8 cloves garlic, chopped 4 cups water 1/4 cup dried mushroom pieces (Italian porcini, if possible) 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme Salt and black or red pepper to taste
Instructions: 1. Preheat oven to 500°F. Place the carrots, celery, and onion in a small (8 x 8 inch) nonstick pan or dish with the olive oil. Toss to coat the vegetables. Bake for 10 minutes.
2. Remove pan from oven, add the garlic, and toss again. Bake for another 10-15 minutes until the vegetables are browned.
3. Remove pan from oven, add 1 cup of water and stir to loosen any vegetables that may be stuck. Pour this into a pot with the remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 30 minutes.
4. Season to taste with salt and black or red pepper, and serve or use as the base for other soups, stews, or pasta dishes.AND:
Tabbouleh Salad
We had some Middle Eastern friends growing up and this was one of my favorite recipes they shared.
Prep time: 30 Min
Ingredients
1 c bulgur wheat, uncooked
2 bunch parsley, chopped
1 c chopped fresh mint or 1/4 cup dry
1 bunch green onions with ends, chopped
3 lg tomatoes, seeded and chopped
1 cucumber, diced
1/8 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp salt
pepper to taste
1/2 tsp allspice
1/2 c fresh lemon juice
1/2 c olive oil, extra virgin
Directions
1. Rinse bulgur wheat well, then drain and squeeze out excess water. Chop parsley, mint, green onions, tomatoes and cucumber and add to wheat. In small bowl add cinnamon, salt, pepper and allspice. Stir in lemon juice and olive oil. Pour over salad and toss all ingredients until mixed well.April 24, 2013 at 2:46 am #11171apensa

MemberI love your recipe for the soup and veggies. I have all of these ingredients here and will make it soon. I never cared for the second one but it looks like something I might try again. Thanks for the good tips.

MemberCongratulations, Stage. You have done really well. My hat is off to you and others that stick to a good exercise regimine. I haven’t lifted weights since I last changed a roll of toilet paper….yes, some men do that. Regarding the double post, there seems to be a hesitation when you enter a response and thinking it didn’t go thourgh, you hit it again.
I too have something to celebrate today. I finished my first….and last, I may add….loaf of Ezekiel SWG Bread. I don’t believe I’ve eaten a more dried out, bland tasting thing since my last C-Ration cracker……and those were pretty bad. LIke they say though, when you are hungry, you will eat anything. No, it wasn’t stale. It was like that from the first time I opened it. Not one to waste food, I stuck it out. I think I will stick to my Aspen Valley 21 whole grain bread. Does anyone else have similar feelings towards the Ezekiel SWG bread? Might be healthy, but, hey, at my age, you have to have some fun!

MemberAPENSA — SEE IF YOU CAN FIND THE SWG ENGLISH MUFFINS. They may be a little dry but not much and are full of crunchies — so good/filling and I could eat the whole box. I ate 3 one They should be in the refrigerated foods like the SWG breads.

MemberJackiee,
Well, I’m eating everything on my diet plan, which has a rating of 86%, and so far in one week of being on the program I’ve gain 1+ lb. The amount of food was my biggest concern. Way over the 1200-1300 calories I should be consuming, especially since I’m not able to work out right now. I’ll give it another week, but if I don’t see some weight loss, I’ll have to assume program isn’t right for me.

MemberHi, jcdkemp. It looks like your body is still recovering from the extended period of time on a very low-calorie diet. 1200-1300 calories is below an amount even for someone who does not work out. If you would be wiling to provide some additional details, I can run some calculations and give recommendations for adjustments: gender, age, height, weight, and a sample day from your menu.

MemberHello everyone, I am a newbie. I am 52 years old and my Physician told me to loose weight. I searched the web and found the TrimDownClub. In Nogales, their is no pier support groups for losing weight. I do believe I have made a very good choice of joining this community.

MemberTandy, Welcome and yes, you will get plenty of support here. Everyone, except maybe me, are really positive thinkers and will help you along with any questions you may have. You have taken an important first step recognizing that support helps and you are willing to give it a try. Don’t get discouraged by all the food choices, no no’s, and strange sounding ingredients. I don’t know how much you have read yet but it is a good idea to start there. From personal experience, don’t dive into the menus with the idea that it is their way or the highway. You will catch on pretty soon and for sure, Do as I say, not as I do…..LOL.
