ppeddleMemberHi all,
It’s been awhile for me. I haven’t been receiving the posts in my email…I suddenly realized that this morning. I haven’t checked my trash…maybe mine ended up where Apensa’s did… lol. I’ll go through the postings tonight to see what I’ve been missing.I’m at the point where I’ve finally got all “non-healthy eating” foods gone from the cupboard and am 100% on this plan. I’ve lost 10 lbs in the last month, about 2lbs a week, so it’s a nice steady rate. I’ve solved my night binging by always having popcorn on hand … I have a microwavable popper so I just by the kernals and pop my own, and add some organic unsalted butter. That way I can control my portion. I’ve been getting a bit of exercise again, cleaning up the yard…I have my vegetable garden planted…potatoes, beets, zucchini, strawberries, raspberries, and pumpkin. I’m thinking I’ve gained a little bit of muscle too and have lost more than the scale is showing, because clothes that did not fit me last summer is fitting me now! And people have started to comment on the weight loss. It has become so effortless! I even had a big birthday cake over the weekend (my birthday was Friday) and still lost 1.5 lbs when I weighed in yesterday.
OSSIE, I have a question for you. I just came from the doctor this morning and my cholesterol actually went up. I’ve been having issues with my cholesterol for the last year, and been taking Crestor since September. I had expected that with being on this plan, eating my Cheerios every morning and taking the Crestor I would be seeing an improvement. High cholesterol, high blood pressure, and heart disease does run strong in my Dad’s side of the family…most of them have had heart attacks in their mid-40s (and I just turned 39). If I remember right, it was recommended to switch from margarine to organic butter…which I was happy to do because I like the taste better. But am I hurting my cholesterol levels by using butter, even though it is organic (and unsalted, because my blood pressure tends to run high too)?
Cheers everyone!

Ossie-SharonMemberHi, Paula. Everybody is a little different, and it could indeed be that adding butter to your intake is not the best choice for you. If you like a buttery taste, some substitutes are less bad than others, including macadamia nut oil (the best choice) or organic omega-3 or olive oil-based soft margarine-like products. Whatever you use, see if you can gradually cut back.
Another option is to choose non-starch, non-fat snacks, even fruits like berries (frozen when they’re not in season). Adding physical activity can also help.
In the meantime, protect the cholesterol you have from oxidation by eating pleanty of vegetables and herbs and spices.May 29, 2013 at 1:25 am #12062
gg66MemberI’m a newbie and I am ashamed to admit it, but I don’t know what a lot of the food choices listed are. I don’t know if I would like them or not. I don’t even know where to buy them. Any suggestions!!

jackieeMemberHi GG, you are like so many of us when we first started. Alien food choices, yip plenty of them until you know where to find them. First stick to food items you know and can buy on your menu planner, them make a list of all the other stuff, ie swg bread ect and start trying to source them in your area. Lots of these food items can be found in health stores or even your local super markets depending on where you like, let us all know where you are in the world as this is very much a intercontinental group. Some have even found swg bread in the frozen food section. Your be amazed that once you know the name of the product your come across it and say wow, that where it’s hiden on the supermarket shelves. Ask the assitance too. Also do a few searches online as some have bought stuff on the net. Under the FAO section theres a list of supermarket where you can buy stuff and also tons of other useful info, just take it one day at a time. If theres specific stuff you would like to know or need encourgement, ask on here, someone will get back to you with help, their a great bunch on the community chat forums. good luck.

Ossie-SharonMemberHi, gg66. Many people are not familiar with some of the foods, but not to worry. Start with what is comfortable, and gradually try new things. The unfamiliar foods tend to be those chosen for their greater contribution to health than many conventional staples, and to increase variety. See the Club’s recipe collection for preparation ideas.

gg66MemberThank you Ossie and Jackiee!! I was beginning to doubt my decision to try this plan. I live in West Texas, not the one that just exploded, but a small town outside of Lubbock,Texas.
I will go back again and relook at everything. It, the diet, makes complete sense to me. I was so thrilled when I stumbled on it.
What is SWG and spelt milk?
Thanks.GG

stgeofunMemberI have another dinner idea for everyone. Since I’m leaving on a weeks vacation on Saturday, I’m trying to use up things in my fridge. I had a piece of fish left over from my BBQ the other night, so I decided to cut it up in chunks and fry it in a little olive oil. I shredded some cabbage and made a mixture of plain yogurt and 1 tsp. of catsup and put that over it. It was so yummy, just like fish tacos without the tortilla! lol I know the catsup isn’t something that is recommended, but I used so very little and it’s the first I’ve had since January 28 of this year.
Let me know if any of you try this. I think you’ll like it!May 30, 2013 at 11:09 am #12113
Ossie-SharonMemberHi, gg66. Spelt milk is a vegan milk made from the spelt grain – much like rice or oat milk. Spelt is a type of wheat, but is much less processed than even the whole wheat found in today’s marketplace

RadissonMemberHi everyone!
LynnM: Your hitting a plateau… Maybe your system has gone into starving mode. You are too faithful to the program. Time to cheat, get a large pizza all dressed or whatever is your favourite. Your system will think your starting to eat again and will switch to fat burning again. Look at the instructions with the free vegetables list. You are allowed to do this an should. Good luck and enjoy some wine or Champagne with this… And then you return to TDC and see what happens.June 2, 2013 at 8:01 pm #12199
LynnMMemberThanks, Radisson, good idea! I was just sitting here wondering how to manage dinner, and I think I will take your advice….pizza would work! And I have some great salad stuff here.

ppeddleMemberHi OSSIE. Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, only regular margarines available in the area. I looked through everything I eat, and the only food item I see that would cause me the problem is the butter, but I only eat it on my popcorn on the weekends, and that is not a lot. So I’m torn between switching to Becel and sacrificing the buttery taste on my popcorn, or, leaving it as is for the small amount I do have. High cholesterol is VERY strong in the family so it’s struggle I’ll have anyways. I do eat lots of fruits and veggies daily (celery sticks, strawberries, and bananas every day) and all whole unprocessed foods now, and am getting lots of fresh air and exercise working in my garden.
It’s definitely a part of the diet I have to watch VERY closely. Learning the difference between Good vs Bad fats is my next step.
Cheers all!

apensaMemberWell, I’ve joined the few here that other medical situations have come between some of my TDC regimen. I took a freak spill at home and really screwed up my knee. I am unable to continue my morning walking and have been forced to be very sedentary with my leg elevated. Trying to at least maintain a good diet. Really tempted to enjoy my Vodka, but have not succumbed to that at least.

Ossie-SharonMemberHi, Paula. This is a bit of a leap, but if there is any change you can find macadamia nut oil (or even order it online), it has a bit of a buttery flavor, a little goes a long way on popcorn, and it is much, much, better for your cholesterol.

ppeddleMemberHi OSSIE
I don’t think I’ll find it locally, but then I said that about swg bread and other things. I’ll look around. I’ll also see what I can find online. Thanks!!!
