stgeofunMemberIt’s been awhile since I have posted to the newbies, but wanted everyone to know, that with a few detours during vacation and company, I am back on track. Today I dropped another pound, which makes a total of 15 since Jan. 28. Slow but sure. I don’t know if it is because it is summer and I am not as scheduled, or what, but I am getting lazy in my food preparations. I am taking the convient way out right now, but my fridge and shelves are stocked with a ton of stuff. I really have got to get back to cooking a bit more. I’m loving the fruits in season right now, and I’m probably eating a little too much of them, but they sure are good! I’m off to the gym a little late this morning because I decided to get some of my housework done and some of my reading done this morning before I left for the gym. I stayed in all day yesterday, and that tends to make me a little down, so I thought I’d mix up the day with a little work, then the gym, etc. It helps to break up my day, a bit. So, I will catch up later on everyone’s posts and wish you all good luck!

jhazeltonMemberHi, I’m just starting on Trim Down Club. I’m 71, been a diabetic for about 15 years. I’ve been pretty much vegan for the past 5 years because of IBS symptoms when I eat meat or anything greasy. We live in the country and raise most of our own vegetables organically so the veggie part of this diet is easy for me. Getting off artificial sweeteners is not easy though. I have some habits I need to break. Snacking inappropriately is one of them. This Trim Down lifestyle fits as close to everything I’ve been reading as any I’ve seen. Hopefully it will help me bring it all together and I’ll reach the goal of losing some weight and giving up some of my diabetes medicine.

apensaMemberWelcome and good luck, hasleton. We are the same age but fortunately outside of a recent knee injury, I don’t have any medical problems…..just not as trim as I used to be. I’ve lost several pounds just adhering to the advice I have found here, but I’ll be darned if I know from where….LOL. You sure seem to have a leg up with your healthy eating habits. Any chance just changing what you nibble on could help?
June 22, 2013 at 12:10 am #12729
jhazeltonMemberHi apensa,
Definitely the nibbles need to change. I like chocolate way too much and Hills Bros mocha cappuccino, even if it is the sugar free variety. On Wednesday evening after church my husband likes to make the Braum’s run! Maybe I should content myself with iced tea, but Braums is tough! Also need to control my eating of nuts. Mostly its just going overboard on the snacks. Today, eating six mini meals kept me so full I didn’t crave snacks and had to remind myself to eat them. This may be the change I need to make: 6 meals.June 22, 2013 at 12:28 am #12732
apensaMemberYes, hasleton, I know what you mean. My biggest downfall was having a couple of vodkas or martinis every night. I really enjoyed them but it all turns to sugar. Well, I just don’t buy any booze now, but I will have a glass of red wine now and then. You just have to get your weak points away from you. I’ll have a fistful of almonds now and then but trying to keep them away too. My hat is off to you for sticking to the “mini meals”. I never could do that. That is another one of my problems….I forget to eat. I know it is hard to deprive yourself but if you don’t have the things that tempt you around, you can’t eat them. Good luck.

jhazeltonMemberSo far, so good. Today was one of those on the run days. I ate oatmeal with apple for breakfast, took along a snack of string cheese and walnuts as I went out the door and ate it at 11:30, in the car. Returned home from my library program at 3:00 hungry and a little low on blood sugar, a little shaky. I had leftover quinoa and bean salad, avocado, and Greek yogurt with blueberries & blackberries. Very satisfying and on target. Now I have to go buy supplies because the next time I come in hungry I want to have the right foods at hand, or I’ll remember the Twix and ice cream in the freezer.

TerrieSMemberHi all
Im new to this plan, a whole 3 days now! Ive had a weight problem ALL my life from chubby child, to fat teenager to extremely overweight adult. In the last 4 years I have started to tweak and change the way I viewed food and managed to lose 39 pounds, however Im still currently 206 pounds and reached stalemate despite going from taking little or no exercise to brisk walking on the treadmill for 45 mins 5 times a week (did try gentle running but the knee complained probably due to too much impact). So anyway, after researching I found TDC and decided to give it a try.Im finding it hard as it seems to be so much eating! Im one of these that forget to eat, and then when I do eat I feel guilty for eating due to being so overweight. In general, as a family, we do not eat processed foods and I cook everything up from fresh ingredients…that said, Ive found some interesting tweaks. The only problem Im finding in the last 3 days is extreme tiredness kicking in around 2pm despite me taking lunch around 1pm.

jhazeltonMemberHow do I add a picture to my profile?
June 27, 2013 at 10:22 pm #12861
apensaMemberhazelton, I think you go up and click on your handle right after where it says “hello” and you can edit your profile from there. I could be wrong. When it comes to computers, I usually am….LOL…too frigin old I guess.

LadyTundraMemberjhazelton: I believe to add your picture, click on your name in the upper right hand side that is all in orange. That will bring up your profile and you click where your picture will go and then click to add your picture/avatar. You browse to where the picture you wish to add resides. Click on it and follow the directions to add it to your profile. I hope this will be of help to you.

Ossie-SharonMemberHi, TerrieS. If you are used to skipping meals, it may be that the lunch is large for you at this point. Since the afternoon snack tends to be the smallest of all the meals, try reducing the size of your lunch and increasing the afternoon snack to balance out the intake. That may help

Ptolemy332MemberHi, I have just joined too and I am 71. I lost 2 stones on another diet 3 years ago but since retiring I have noticed that my weight has been increasing gradually. Time to do something about it so here I am. It’s good to have like minded people to have discussions with. Sometimes friends don’t want to know!
June 28, 2013 at 4:36 pm #12880
apensaMemberPToloney…..Always glad to see another youngster the same age as myself joining. Isn’t the truth. The weight just seems to want to match our advancing years and I’ll bet that you suffer from the same problem I have…….the mind doesn’t age with the body. I have found most invaluable the advise and some of the dietary hints that I get here. I have quit my daily two martini end of the day drinks and I really think it has had a lot to do with my weight loss. I was never overly over weight, but that darn around the middle flab just doesn’t seem to want to go away…..I also find myself having to increase my bra cup size……LOL. Anyway, not sure if you are he or she but welcome, read and do what you can.

jhazeltonMemberThanks! I was able to add a picture easily.
