cathylchildsMemberHello everyone. Just started the club and looking forward to feeling healthier and happier. I am a bit worried that I am going to really miss my junk food and concerned that although my first 2 weeks have been ok I am going to lapse back into old habbits!!!! Its good to see how everyone supports each other so looking forward to sharing. Cheers!

dusty0318Memberapensa, thank you for asking. I started weighing around 290. I was eating a peanut butter and banana sandwich for brunch and occasionally a lean cuisine for dinner. Then I started drinking lemonade and tang and having the occasional lean cuisine. Now I am drinking milk with hershey syrup, usually caramel, added. I was down to 176 and now I’m back to 188.

apensaMemberOssie: Why don’t you jump into this conversation between Dusty and I. Isn’t that fluctuating weight not the best thing for you? I have to hand it to you, Dusty, for sticking to that diet. You certainly got result but wouldn’t you rather achieve a healthy way of eating where it becomes a way of life and not have to struggle with deprivation in an on and off situation. In any case, congratulations on your weight loss. One more thing……do as I suggest, not as I do….LOL.

RadissonMemberHi everyone, we all have our crosses to bear its called life!
stgeofun: My avatar comes from the Canadian history of Pierre-Esprit Radisson (1636–1710) a French fur trader and explorer. He is often linked to his brother-in-law Médard des Groseilliers who was about 20 years older. The decision of Radisson and Groseilliers to enter the English service led to the formation of the Hudson’s Bay Company.
I am like so many French-Canadians that travel to Florida each winter commonly called the “Snowbirds”. Since my wife from nearly 29 years was treated with cancer, like the Canadian geese we migrate south. I bring her twice a year to Florida 4 to 5 weeks in the fall and again in the spring. She will be retiring in January 2015. Also, when I was a young adult Radisson used to be my CB call name.
Seaborn: If I remember correctly the silence was related to how many glasses of French wine I was allowed to consume while on TDC. I never really asked the question nor do I really want an answer. Hence, silence is golden. Good to hear from you.
Take care and good health to all of you.

AnnMarie1963MemberHi everyone, liking the menu planner & not liking the menu planner. Guess it takes practice but I’m stuck having to throw things out because I will open a can or container for 1/4 cup or 1 tblsp & then not see that item again. Any tricks to getting it to work so that your not stuck with throwing things away.

Ossie-SharonMemberHi, AnnMarie. By all means repeat food items throughout the week, if you wish. Just match up the food groups and make the swaps. If you would like more help with this, by all means repost with examples.

AnnMarie1963MemberGood to know, so then I could also switch between menus for example if I prefer certain days to others I can interchange between menus.

Ossie-SharonMemberHi, AnnMarie – as long as you match up the food groups, you can do whatever you want! The point is to be happy with what you eat 🙂

stgeofunMemberHey Everyone,
Its nice to see the familiar and not so familiar faces here on TDC. I’m feeling pretty great after my doctor’s appointment on Friday. He told me that since 2009, I have lost 50 pounds. Although I’d like more off, I’m going in the right direction. But beside the weight loss, he told me that he could not lecture me about anything! He said that all of my numbers show that I’m doing the right things. I owe a lot of that success to this program.
In answer to Dusty’s comment, if you stick to this way of eating, I don’t think you’ll ever want to go back to eating the junk. I’m not saying that I never eat junk, but if I do, I don’t feel good, so it’s a real incentive! I usually cook two or three times a week and just make enough of a recipe to freeze or refrigerate for another day. I don’t like to eat the same thing all the time, so this way, I get the benefit of a varied diet without having to cook ALL the time! People are amazed that I cook so much because I live alone, but that’s why I do.
Radisson…thanks for the informative explanation of your online name. By the way, I love the French Canadian part of Canada. I’ve been there many times.
jackie…I will not have the pleasure of getting to Italy this year. I am going to Istanbul, Turkey, three places in Romania, Budapest, Hungary, Vienna and Salzburg, Austria, and Prague, Czech Republic! I am so excited! I have spent a big portion of the day today viewing YouTube publications on the areas I will be going. I love photography, and this is a photographers dream!
apensa…I think you keep all of us entertained on here and I like your honesty! lol It’s so good to be able to laugh at ourselves.
Bev, I hope you have better health this summer! I like to swim too. That will be really good for you!
Take care everyone….and enjoy this type of lifestyle!September 15, 2013 at 2:48 am #14959
stgeofunMemberWhoops…sorry, Ann Marie, some of my comments were meant in reply to your comment! lol Enjoy!

Ossie-SharonMemberHi, Apensa. Thanks for the heads up! Yes, of course, weight fluctuations are very hard on the body. My thought here, Dusty, is that what you were doing to get to 176 was just too restrictive, so it magnified the “need” for sweets and junk. Don’t give them up entirely and cold turkey. Make your current meals enjoyable and make sure they fill you up, and fit in gradually smaller portions of the less healthy stuff (eventually less often).

DangerMemberI’ve been following this diet for about 3 months now. I was pretty disheartened to start with as first week I put on 2 lbs. Following week I lost four. Then I put on 2. Then eventually I lost more, but it’s been very slow going. I found it frustrating that so many people were saying they’d lost 5lbs in a week and I was piddling along. However, while I was religiously doing all the meals to plan but suppers I was having to not be as rigid as I’m also feeding my hubby who wouldn’t eat some of the stuff (and he’s not needing to lose weight, if anything he needs to gain). So I would make healthy dinners but just portion control it carefully for myself. I also skipped the evening snack as I felt I don’t want it or need it.
So my weight loss has been 1/2 lb per week – I’ve lost 7lbs in total since I started.
I also go to the gym and ride my horse several times a week. According to my nutritionist / personal trainer friend (who has been quietly advising me on the side – approves of the diet even though she’s not a member) that my own body type puts on muscle very easily, therefore weight loss not so quick but body shape changes noticeable.
Other thing is too – I’ve had the odd thing NOT on the diet (meals out, the odd dessert – the other day donuts). I don’t feel bad – I just call it life. However my mantra is that I want to lose the weight more than I want the sweets or whatever. I don’t feel hungry so the temptation is less anyway.
So I do think this works, just stick with it.

jackieeMemberHi everyone, hope your all doing well. Well done Danger on the weight loss. I agree it can be dishearting when some of us don’t lose as quick as other but I always feel like I have more energy on this plan. I used to eat like you in the evening because my hubby didn’t want to diet, however for the last few weeks I’ve been serving all my family the food on my menu planner and they haven’t noticed much difference. AnnMarie, I’m very much like katie, I bulk cook and freezer, but how found I freeze less now I’m feeding evenone the same foods. wow Katie, sounds like your be snap happy with so many wonderful places your visiting, hope you have a ball. I’m away to do my menu plan for the week so good luck everyone.
