melanieyoungMemberI like to eat more fruits this time of year. Can add more fruit to my menu?

Ossie-SharonMemberHi, Melanie. You can substitute any starchy carb exchange for a serving of fruit.

AliciaGPMemberHello, I’m new and I have a question about the last snack of the day. I usually stay up late, past midnight, and I know you are not supposed to eat so late at night, so what would be the best time to have my last snack?

Ossie-SharonMemberHi, Alicia. Up to one hour before you retire for the night is fine for your last snack.

kwilke710MemberHi – I am on day one and am super excited – so much food. BUT – I have pasta coming up – and calls for 1/2 a cup of cheese tortellini. How do I measure this? Normally I would weight 4 ounces out. Correct? Thanks in advance.

Ossie-SharonMemberHi, kwilke. I recommend getting a measuring cup, as this can help tremendously with portion-sizing and control. Weights sometimes match up, but not always.

shaburMemberHi. I’m on week 3 of this diet and I’ve lost a little weight, but I have a long way to go. I’ve never been a breakfast eater, but I’ve been making myself eat in the morning. I eat my lunch in the later afternoon so that my dinner and evening snack are later, but it hasn’t curtailed my nighttime hunger and that I haven’t been able to control. This has been a bad habit I picked up many years ago as a way of coping with some mental health issues that I am still dealing with.
I only have foods for this diet in my house so that’s what I eat. Any suggestions? Is there something I can do or eat that will help me through this time until I can break this habit? I really need help with this.March 28, 2017 at 8:36 pm #38165
Ossie-SharonMemberHi, Shabur. It’s great to read of your progress, and I wish you the best in continuing here. Your nighttime issue is very common, and I’m happy to help in whatever way I can.
The great advantage you have is that you recognize that a mental issue is involved. As such, I suggest you consider what non-food activities you enjoy as much as food at night, that will keep you busy and distracted. Try sipping on something that will keep you full and soothed (tea or decaffeinated coffee with a natural no-carb sweetener such as Stevia and/or erythritol, clear broth, etc.). Another option is to try yoga in the evening, which not only gets you toned, can actually help your spirits and enhance the quality of your sleep.

jackieeMemberHi,just wanted to let you all know I’ve finally broke through a weight target. Been dieting for years now and always got stuck at 84 kilo….wasn’t sure why but at that weight always got me and then I’d slowly but surely gain weight again. So I tried looking at it differently and thought what was mentally blocking me. Personally it was the weight I arrived at on my second Ivf treatment. Over the years after the birth of my wee angel I was given many excuses by myself and friends to why I couldn’t get under that weight again….lots of thoughts, meditation and acceptance, plus some health exercising and this diet of course 😉 I am not 82 kilos, its still over my natural weight I know but now I’ve accepted my mental blockage I feel like I’m moving on down more and more prepared to pass my next milestone (which is 76 kilos the weight I arrived at after stopping smoking- hopefully aerivebther before next spring).
Shabur I do hope you find your way to cope with your own issues, I can relate to how hard it is finding the balance between, healthy mind, body and soul. The internet is a great source of help. I personal use an angel meditation late at night (in bed away from the kitchen and temptation 😉 ) it helps me unwind, accept me for being me and get to sleep early before I start even thinking of a midnight feast. I hope you find away to pass your issue and continue on the healthy eating plan xxxApril 2, 2017 at 5:00 pm #38198

N0008993MemberHi, This is my third week and I am excited about this plan. It took a few days to understand how to swap foods in my menu so I am able to have a veriaty of food that corresponds with my meal plan. That has made me so happy. I also like the fact I’m eating healthy and that made my doctor happy. Plus, loosing weight has made this plan a win, win situation!,

MortswifeMemberHi, I just joined, but haven’t been to the store to buy yet. I’ve had trouble for years with water retention monthly. Can my new diet aid that or is it all hormones?
April 12, 2017 at 1:52 pm #38324
Ossie-SharonMemberHi, Mortswife, and welcome! A good diet can help with water retention and with hormonal issues in general, including those that worsen water retention.
First, attention to salt content is important. We recommend avoiding overly processed foods that contain high amounts of processed salt that worsen water retention, and prevent release of the water. We encourage foods high in competing minerals such as potassium, calcium, and magnesium.
Second, our balanced plan based on these same minimally processed foods, with right-sized portions, healthy timing, and enhanced by physical activity, can support hormonal balance. - AuthorPosts
