GeziMemberHi- I am 69 and would like to be included in a group of older people who need weight loss and not highly active. I am moderately active to light active. Also, I know my sugar/carb intake is my biggest problem area- but I also see how much food I have to eat in one day! I read the other comments but when I am working ( I teach at college)I barely have time to eat properly so seeking advice about that. I know I can use food exchanges but when things get busy- cooking is the last think I like to do. I do plan to make homemade soups for dinner and lunches. I still getting to know the site. Are there homemade soup options? easier meals to take on the go? it’s a lot of information so maybe it’s so new and confusing. but I am excited. Hope you can answer my questions.

Ossie-SharonMemberHi, Gezi. You may find the connections you’re looking for in the Group Forums – most people in this program are just like you!
As for the soups, please do take advantage of our recipe collection – see link here http://www.trimdownclub.com/recipe_type/soups/.December 30, 2017 at 2:17 am #40139
terrireduxMemberJust joined tonight and plan to get going on January 2. I, like most people, have been on countless diets over the last 20 years. I need to get this weight off and would love to be at a comfy 165 (currently 226) before my 60th birthday in 2019. I’m just done with being overweight and unhealthy.

jetpilotMemberHow do I add a recipe from your recipe section to my meal plan?

Ossie-SharonMemberHi, Spanielfan, and welcome! Click on “My Food Choices” to be brought to the fully personal version of the Menu Planner application.

Ossie-SharonMemberHi, Jetpilot. If you use the personal version of the Menu Planner application (the right-most option here: http://www.trimdownclub.com/menu-planner), you will see some of our recipes in the “Recipes” subcategory of each major food group. For newer recipes that have not yet been added into the system, you can use them to substitute for the main ingredient in your meal. You can also match up the exchanges visible at the end of each recipe and when you click on “Exchange Mode” in the toolbar above your menu. It doesn’t need to be a perfect match to work.

SarahlefflerMemberWhere can I find information about exchanges, such as what I’m supposed to have in each meal/snack, or how much of each category each day, or the amounts of food that make up an exchange? Other plans I’ve tried have this very clearly laid out, and I cannot find that information here.

Carys79MemberHi. This is Day One of my adventure. I’m so excited about the variety the plan offers, and I look forward to using this program to change my nutritional habits.
I have a few questions. 1st, is there a mobile app by trimdownclub that will allow me to do my meal-by-meal tracking on my phone rather than having to login via a computer every time I want to record my meals eaten? Additionally, if such an app exists, is it possible to load my weekly meal plan into that app so that all I have to do is check off the items as I consume them and/or modify them with the allowable exchanges?
Second, I have pre-diabetes, and so I am concerned about adding any supplements without my doctor’s approval. Is the IC5 that is shown in my plan compatible with medications such as Metformin and Telmisartan?
Finally, is an over-the-counter FishOil, such as FishOil Gummies, sufficient for this program? The bottle indicates two per day, but your plan recommends taking fish oil three times a day, but no dosage amount is shown.
Thanks in advance for your advice and direction.January 2, 2018 at 1:42 pm #40148
LindaMrsPMemberI have just joined and have some questions. Why is there no calorie count on the nutritional information table? If I substitute my spinach soup for yours is it ‘free’ – mine has no fat, only spinach, onion and chili all cooked in water with one bullion cube. Sometimes I had coconut milk – how to calculate that please? When an ingredient is listed as sauce/salsa/pico de gallo – what does that mean? A fresh tomato sauce or can it be a traditional low fat pasta sauce? No doubt I will have a lot more questions too. Please be patient. I want this to work!

kajer7MemberHi my husband just joined, created his menu and printed the shopping list. I will be cooking for him, my 7 year old and myself at dinner. I love that my husbands meals a planned for the day it means I don’t have to think about it but I wish there was a link connected to the protein in the dinner section or a way for me to figure out a dinner recipe that is going to make sure he’s following the diet. Of course I could make the chicken, brown rice and vegetables separately but that’s going to get boring and I want him to enjoy the meals. Anyone have any suggestions or did I miss something so that I’m not spending tons of time searching through recipes everyday.

Ossie-SharonMemberHi, Sarah. In the toolbar above your finished menu, you will see the “Exchange mode” button – when you click on it, you will see the exchanges you are allotted for each meal and day. Exchanges are just units of nutrient values that are used to build your menus in a way that ensures your nutritional needs are being met. The approximate nutritional values are as follows:
1 carb exchange = 15 grams of carbohydrates + up to 3 grams of protein
1 protein exchange = 7 grams of protein + up to 5 grams of fat
1 fat exchange = 5 grams of fat
1 fruit exchange = 15 grams of carbohydrates
1 vegetable exchange = 5 grams of carbohydrates + up to 2 grams of protein
1 sweet exchange = up to 15 grams of carbohydrates + up to 5 grams of fat
1 free exchange = up to 5 grams of carbohydrates or up to 2 grams of protein or fatJanuary 3, 2018 at 12:51 am #40157
Ossie-SharonMemberHi, Carys. For phone app information, I suggest you consult with the tech team – I am forwarding your query to them. Regarding supplements, they are not expected to interfere with your medications; however, I would recommend you discuss them with your doctor. Regarding fish oil, it is important to purchase them from a reputable manufacturer, as potency and lack of oxidation are very important. With regard to the dosage, a total of 200-1000 mg/day is fine, especially if you have relevant health issues such as diabetes or cardiovascular.

Ossie-SharonMemberHi, Linda. We don’t work with calories, but rather with meeting your nutritional needs. You will see at the end of each Trim Down Club recipe a list of exchanges per serving, and when you click on “Exchange mode” in the toolbar above your menu, you will see your exchanges per meal and day. The approximate nutritional values of these exchanges are as follows:
1 carb exchange = 15 grams of carbohydrates + up to 3 grams of protein
1 protein exchange = 7 grams of protein + up to 5 grams of fat
1 fat exchange = 5 grams of fat
1 fruit exchange = 15 grams of carbohydrates
1 vegetable exchange = 5 grams of carbohydrates + up to 2 grams of protein
1 sweet exchange = up to 15 grams of carbohydrates + up to 5 grams of fat
1 free exchange = up to 5 grams of carbohydrates or up to 2 grams of protein or fat
With this information, you can compare what is listed per serving in the Nutrition Facts label of foods you are using (such as the coconut milk you asked about).
With regard to the soup you described – yes, it is likely free withoiut the coconut milk, though you could use it as your “Vegetable of Your Choice” serving (and a serving of coconut milk yielding up to 5 grams of fat would be a “fat” exchange).
As for the sauce/salsa – it could be a regular tomato sauce or pasta sauce without much added oil or sugar.
If you have any other nutrition questions, I’m happy to help.January 3, 2018 at 1:06 am #40159
Ossie-SharonMemberHi, Kajer. If you use our recipe collection, there is exchange information at the end of Trim Down Club recipes, and you can compare them to what is in the menu; you can see exchanges in the menu by clicking on “Exchange mode” in the toolbar above the menu. I hope that helps – if not, please do repost, and I will get back to you.
