wanga56MemberHi, I just joined last night and am reading over all the information. I feel so overwhelmed and don’t know where to begin. Is this normal for beginners? My menu plan is confusing. It doesn’t allow me to delete a food, only replace it with something. Do I need to eat that food or its replacement? Is there another place to type in the food I want to eat? Sorry for all the questions, but I want to start off the right way and not get frustrated and give up. Thanks for any sugguestions.

kathybruce@bex.netMemberHmm, I posted a question 4 days ago and no response. Very disappointing.

Ossie-SharonMemberHi, Kathy, and apologies for the delay. Half-and-half is absolutely fine – particularly if it is full fat or low-fat (we don’t recommend “skim” or “fat free.” Each two tablespoons (30 ml) is a fat exchange – less than that over a whole day would be “free.”

Ossie-SharonMemberHi, Denise. If you use the personal version of the Menu Planner application (access it by clicking on the “My Food Choices icon in the toolbar above your current menu), you will see some of our recipes in the “Recipes” subcategory of each major food group. For newer recipes that have not yet been added into the system, you can use them to substitute for the main ingredient in your meal. You can also match up the exchanges visible at the end of each recipe and when you click on “Exchange Mode” in the toolbar above your menu. It doesn’t need to be a perfect match to work.

Ossie-SharonMemberHi, wanga, and welcome. Yes, your feeling is absolutely normal! Just ease into it – small steps will add up, and are likely to take hold much better. It looks like you are seeking the fully personal version of the Menu Planner application, which you can access by clicking on the “My Food Choices” icon.

kathybruce@bex.netMemberI don’t have a food scale here at work. I have an 8″ cheese pizza here. How much is 4 ounces?
January 9, 2018 at 6:29 pm #40216
Ossie-SharonMemberHi, Kathy. The package should note the weight, though most 8-inch pizzas are about 8 ounces – that would make half the pizza 4 ounces.

aepop2MemberHi Everyone! I’m excited to start. I just got my menu all situated and will be starting on Monday.
QUESTION – I LOVE tabouleh. It seems healthy – Can I eat it? Where would it fit? It wasn’t in the menu planner and I don’t know what to do.January 11, 2018 at 9:49 pm #40243
Ossie-SharonMemberHi, aepop2, and welcome! If the tabouleh is whole grain, then absolutely! You can use “bulgur” or “couscous” in the Menu Planner food lists for it.

aepop2MemberAnother newbie question – what is the recommended water intake for me?
Also side question – is there an app for this to be able to view the forum and get notifications?January 13, 2018 at 7:52 pm #40250

wanga56MemberI am trying to understand the program and cannot find anywhere the # of carbs, protein, fat, fruit etc I am permitted each day. This is a new way of life for me and need more direction. On one of the articles I read there is a dietitian online service available but I can’t find it. HELP!
January 15, 2018 at 12:23 am #40258
Ossie-SharonMemberHi, aepop2. You need about 1800 ml per day (about 7.5 8-ounce glasses) – 13% more with excess heat or strenuous workouts.
Regarding your app question, I have forwarded that to our tech team, and someone will get back to you soon.January 15, 2018 at 12:58 am #40259
Ossie-SharonMemberHi, roseymoe. I actually did see milk on your menu. In addition, every time you see a dairy product such as yogurt, you can substitute that with milk. You can also go into “My Food Choices” (the apple icon in the toolbar above your menu), and select milk in the “Protein” category of the food lists and click on the associated “heart” icon, to ensure it appears in your menu more frequently.
