MemberI’m having trouble with morning meals. In the past I’ve been bad about skipping breakfast. I am not really hungry in the mornings so I’ve tried to make myself eat the breakfast recommended. But then I’m not hungry by snack and forget to eat the morning snack. I’m noticing that this is causing me problems over eating later. Any suggestions are appreciated. Should I cut some food for breakfast?

MemberDo you have suggested times a day we should eat, I feel like I am eating my mid morning snack too close to breakfast and lunch?

MemberHi, nella. It’s great that you’re so in tune with your body’s signals. It would be better to skip the morning snack rather than breakfast, or to drink your snack. If you like smoothies and shakes, we have an extensive collection of ideas in our “Recipes” section; if you want something salty, we have ideas for hearty soups, as well. You can also try cutting back a little on the starchy carbs, as proteins are more likely to help you avoid evening binges.

MemberHi, Cthurston. We suggest eating breakfast near to the time when you first wake up for the day, and space other meals about 2.5-3 hours apart, with the last snack being at least 1 hour before you retire for your longest period of sleep.

MemberJust starting the program. On the menu, some of the meals have fish oil with a link to information at the bottom of the menu. Does this mean I am supposed to take fish oil with this meal? If so, how much and do I take softgels?

MemberI have just started this plan a few days ago. I am doing the 8 week start up, but it seem like I’m going in an changing the food around, constantly. Realistically, I would not eat a potato, “dinner” meat for a snack? It seem like sometimes my snacks are so similar to a meal I have in the same day. Thoughts? Suggestions? Would it be better to just go by exchanges and plan my own daily menu? I thought it would be easier to have the plan out there for me, but some of the meals just seem too much. If I had to work, there would be no way I could eat the foods my plan is giving me. Partly because of prep and partly because it just seems like I’m getting 5 meals a day, not 3 meals and two snack. ??

MemberHi, Cthurston. What sort of protein shake? We generally encourage you to meet your nutritional needs through foods, but if the shake is all-natural and makes things easier (e.g., if you are pressed for time for certain meals), sometimes it can work. What sort of shake did you have in mind?

MemberHi, Doug. The reference to fish oil is a recommendation based on information you provided when you signed up. If you click on that link, it will bring you to a recommended product that has a recommended dose on the label.

MemberHi, fdmdj83. You can go by exchanges and plan your own meals by clicking on the circular arrow icon to the right of any meal header, then following the directions in the pop-up box. If you want to adjust the size of any meal or snack by selecting more exchanges of a certain food group for one, and less for another.

MemberI’m just starting out and have a question about portion sizes. When the diet calls for 3 oz of meat, is that the weight before or after cooking? Also, when it calls for 1/2 c. pasta or rice, is that after cooking? How do I calculate how much pasta or rice expands when cooked?

MemberHi, Melody, and welcome! Animal flesh products are before cooking (though if they are lean, it doesn’t really matter), and fruit, nuts, and seeds are raw, while grain products and starchy vegetables are cooked or baked, and vegetables are raw unless otherwise specified.

MemberHi, bse64. Yes, but we do prefer that the shake be food-based and not include any artificial ingredients. What shake did you have in mind?
