MemberWell, I’m back. I’ve been diagnosed with prediabetes and having problems with my left leg. I’m devastated and angry with myself. I know what to do, but…I’m just stunned.

MemberHi, SkinnyLynn. Welcome back – no need to be angry with yourself. Backslides happen to everyone, and at least you’re taking responsibility. As you may remember, our program is based on nutrition that is protective against and in dealing with diabetes, so you have come to the right place.
With regard to your leg, there are still exercises you can do, and exercise can be like diabetes medicine. See the links below for some ideas:

Beyond that, yoga and water exercises can also be greatly beneficial.May 3, 2019 at 7:40 pm #43095SkinnyLynn0427
MemberI’m going to the doctor again. This time I find out why one leg keeps swelling. I just found out I’m prediabetic so I’m really concerned.

MemberHi, SkinnyLynn. Thanks very much for the update. It is likely that you need to avoid salty foods – mostly processed – which we hope you are avoiding anyway. For smoothies, brightly colored fruits and vegetables and dark green leafy vegetables, ground nuts, along with fermented liquids like yogurts and kefirs with active cultures (full fat and without sugar or artificial sweeteners – add your own Stevia/erythritol) are the best while you are dealing with multiple challenges.
Video clips of exercises that may help are linked below:

MemberThanks so much. Everyone is advising me to watch carbs. This gets confusing because everything has carbs.

MemberHi, SkinnyLynn. Most foods do indeed have carbs, but “watching” them means being aware of amounts and limiting them, and definitely avoiding simple, refined carbs – high-fiber carbs are fine. Our program is pretty much based on those principles.

MemberHigh fiber carbs? Like whole-grain breads?
May 5, 2019 at 12:25 pm #43104Ossie-Sharon
MemberHi, SkinnyLynn – exactly…plus whole grain cereals, sides (like brown Basmati rice), etc., as well as legumes (beans and peas), nuts, and of course, fruits and vegetables.

MemberNobody has said it like that. High fiber carbs set off the bells and whistles.
Thanks.May 29, 2019 at 2:58 am #43150Jcovarrubias
MemberHello, I just join and I am confused with the amount of fat, protein, carbs, etc. I was told i can not eat carbs and I see lots of pasta recipes. Can you explain? How do I measure my food? Thank you!
May 29, 2019 at 8:09 am #43151Ossie-Sharon
MemberHi, Jcovarrubias. If you are trying to avoid carbohydrates altogether, you may benefit from our keto meal plan, which you can get through Customer Service (you can reach them through the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of this page).
You are seeing pasta because you are plugged into our regular low-carb (but not “no”-carb rouite). If you can tell me the reason you were told that you can’t have carbs, perhaps I can help you in more detail.
How you measure your food depends on the food. Most starch and fruit measurements are in cups (one cup is about the size of your fist), and animal flesh foods are in weights, though you can eyeball it by considering that 4 ounces (114 grams) is about the size and thickness of the palm of your hand (without the fingers and thumb).May 29, 2019 at 10:24 pm #43152HrtTrnsplnt
MemberI need help! I am a type 2 diabetic on insulin after having a heart transplant. I started the 8 week plan a week and a half ago. My husband is eating the exact same foods as I am and he lost 7lbs in a week and a half and I lost nothing!! Do I need to cut back on the carbs recommended in my menu?
May 29, 2019 at 10:48 pm #43153Ossie-Sharon
MemberHi, HrtTransplant. Yes, it looks like you would benefit from cutting back on some of the starchy carbohydrates – especially if you have been on anti-rejection medication.
