CHIA
MemberOSSIE: My rosacea has gotten a lot worse since I started this diet and eat a lot of oatmeal and barley, of which they are both made with wheat right? I just read that wheat can cause a lot of skin problems. All along, I’ve wondered if my rosacea is from something from within my body. What foods can I eat to take the place of the oatmeal, rice or barley, that will give me the nutrients that I need on this diet?

MemberJACKIEE: Thanks for the tip to look for “drinks” instead of shakes. I found them. I have not told my friends about my diet yet. I always like to wait until someone notices I have lost some weight — just in case I fail, or it takes longer to show. 🙂 Have a great day!

MemberHi, Chia. Try quinoa, amaranth, millet, brown rice, organic cornmeal (not cornflour). Buckwheat groats, sorghum, and teff are not in the planner (because they tend to be very culture-specific), but they are also wheat-free.

MemberOSSIE: I haven’t heard of many of these things. Where will I find them? Do health food stores carry most of them? That will be 35 miles from where I live. Which ones would take the place of my breakfast Oatmeal, and which ones would take the place of Barley and rices or pastas? Would I use the same amounts as the oatmeal and the barley? What about the SWG bread and english muffins? I bought both of them. Should I replace them too?

MemberHi, Chia. Yes, you will find them in health-oriented stores. Amaranth is often used as a substitute for oatmeal, and rice is a substitute for barley. For pastas, we recommend brown rice pasta, but there are also corn pastas available. If you really want to avoid all wheat products, it probably would be best for you to avoid most SWG breads and English muffins. When you’re shopping, look for gluten-free whole grain products. Since your nearest healthfood-type store is so far away, perhaps you would like to try shopping online and having it delivered. The following are some helpful links: http://apps.wholefoodsmarket.com/shop/, http://truefoodsmarket.com/, http://www.shoporganic.com/, http://www.glutino.com/our-products/bakery/english-muffins/premium-english-muffins/.

MemberOSSIE: My rosacea has gotten so bad with sores and my skin itches and is sore and inflamed. I’ve got to do something. The meds don’t help very much. That’s why I think it’s coming from within my body.
Again, and again, thanks for your help 🙂January 22, 2013 at 7:42 pm #7047jackiee

MemberGoodmorning girls…and men…it feels like I have been away for ages…I have had a few other things to attend to, as well as helping a friend with some ancestry research…that takes time, but I love it. I have just been reading through the forum and seeing how you are all sailing. Jackiee it was great to “blether” with you love…no doubt we will do it again!LOL! Cheryl67…it is wonderful to see that you have organised yourself to begin this new lifestyle by reading through the info before starting it!!! Good on you! Hope it all goes well for you.Hehe…I never ate breakfast either…no wonder I have been so tired for so long!!! Hope it all goes well for you, especially with those meds you are on…. Misfit2013…good on you…hoping to have another pound off next Monday too! I have been planning on trying some recipes this weekend, and like you I hate cooking! I need a bigger kitchen….I have never had the kind of kitchen I need to feel comfortable in…I am sure that makes a difference to people who don’t enjoy food prep much! But we have to feed the tribes, and we can’t always have what we want, so we just get on with it…allbeit with the idea of getting out of there as quick as possible!!!! Lol….so what are you looking at trying first? My husband doesn’t like the quinoa so I thought I would make the Quinoa Carrot Patties for Saturday lunch….see how he likes it that way! I am used to it now and eat it everyday in place of bread etc. Norunyan….that is wonderful that your sugar is down like that…I must share this with my husband…he keeps his down, but he might be more inclined to eat more of what we are eating when he hears that! Keep up the good work love.Upside down you look like someone I know…might have to check you out later! lol… Chia…I feel for you love and I will be praying for you to get that rosacea sorted! Welcome aboard our cruise Sylvia….yes it is slow to start as you read up and sort out foods….a real learning experience! But very enjoyable with all these lovely people cruising with us. I haven’t lost any more weight yet…maybe Monday will show a loss! But I am feeling much better in myself…more energy and moving and walking much faster than I have done for a long time. The lifestyle change has been worthwhile, and just what I needed. Okay…got to get back to the geneology research….And, it actually rained quite a bit here last night….must have been most of the night…which is great. There is a small cyclone up north (well smaller than others) and we can always rely on getting some rain from them where we are….but we all need a whole lot more in this dry parched country at present. It is our wet season so it should be coming!!!Have a great day crusing everyone…Bev.

MemberHi everyone, I have just joined a couple of nights ago. I am 54 years old and live in New South Wales Australia. I have been struggling with my weight now for about 10 years. I am only short and cant afford to put any more weight on as I am the heaviest I have ever been. I was always average to a bit under weight until I turnes 40 and then it started piling on. I need to lose about 20 kgs. I lost about 8 kgs about 5 years ago but put it back on again.
My health is starting to deteriorate as I have high blood pressure and spent a night in hospital last week with suspected heart problems so I have to lose this weight and improve my heart health.
I have tried so many diets (and spent heaps of money)over the years and found this one my accident when researching heart health. I thought it sounded promising so signed up. I have been more or less following it for the last 2 days. It seems easy to follow and I like how the menus are based on foods you like and things can be swapped. Some of the recipes are a little unusual to me but some look lovely. I havent cooked any yet but have ingredients for the lemon muffins.
I have loved reading through all the posts and have learnt a lot. I feel like I know some of you already. Still need to read heaps more.
Congratulations to those who have lost weight. It does seem like a lot of food to eat but I love eating so will manage it all.
Good luck to all on this cruise (love that idea)to healthy living.

MemberElislaw….good on you for trying this…I hope it works for you…I reckon it will, considering how I feel on it. I was going to Curves a few years ago, and lost 7 kilos, until they got 3 new machines in and one of them made my back worse…my doc and chiropractor convinced me to finish up. They also sent me for x-rays, scans, etc, and found I had degeneration in the lower back, hips area, and then in my shoulders and neck…all from accidents from wild living!!! Haha! I wept for 3 days, but then out of desperation got onto Tony Ferguson (he gave me my dream…I always wanted a pill to take instead of food…only because I hate preparing it…well his was a shake which was just as easy!) and lost another 13 kilos…my husband lost 30! But it all came on again, so I avoid all those things…this is good for me…tells me what to get and when to eat it…love it!! Like having “Super Food Nanny” in the house!!!
Anyway, hope you enjoy the cruise….where are you in NSW?January 23, 2013 at 5:58 am #7074Elislaw
MemberHi Seaborn thanks for your comments.
I am in the Hunter Valley near Newcastle.
I used to go to Curves too. I have tried lots of gyms and lots of diets. I want to rejoin Curves as I like their machines, but the Dr said yesterday to wait til I go to the specialist first. Its a shame you can’t go anymore.

MemberI went through that area many years ago Elislaw….can’t remember much about it, but love the NSW coast. We avoid driving through the cities like a plague, we drive down to Albury to visit a daughter and her family along the Newell (the quickest) and New England Highways….
Yes…it is a shame about Curves…I loved going there 3 mornings a week…but never mind…life is like that! Now I try to walk each week morning down at our esplanade or along the river. I have a bad foot which is making it very hard…but I will keep trying. At this stage I can only do every second day because of it….
Anyway…must go and sort out another meal!!! lol….hope you can eventually go back to Curves….enjoy the cruise! Bev.January 23, 2013 at 8:14 am #7080bearymonsta

it was a huge leap of faith to eat so much more.

I go to curves and have for three and a half years.

I seriously damaged my knee a year ago and i still used the one you push out with your feet….but very slowly and carefully.
I my knee got better more quickly than it had when it happened years before.

I have just picked the things i like.
My main shop list is fresh fruit and veg.
