MemberHi, EthelJ. The various articles on this website explain about the foods and why they are advantageous. Many are similar to what you are eating, but tend to be more nutritionally complete and are better for balancing the body’s metabolism and therefore supporting a healthy weight.
As you start this program, perhaps build your menu with mostly familiar foods, but add 1 or 2 new ones each week to try, and decide which ones you like and will keep in your menu. See the recipes here for ideas on how to prepare them.
Perhaps try taking a “field trip” to a health-oriented store such as Whole Foods Market or Trader Joe’s, and take a look at the foods.February 2, 2013 at 7:57 pm #8148slimasharon
Memberthanks Bev for encouragement. Its only day two and I’ve already made a slip up – someone offered me a Baileys and I downed it before remembering I shouldn’t! I’ll keep gpoing though.

MemberHi, Library. In nearly each food category in the Menu Planner, you will see names of the recipes, designated by a symbol of a covered platter (and hyperlinked to the recipe). You can select them, and the application will automatically place them in your weekly menu, with the appropriate portion size.

MemberHi, Rebeccadors. A lot of people are going wheat-free and gluten-free lately, and they all went through the same steps you are now. Rice flour is one of the lighter flours, so it needs to be mixed with a heavier sort, i.e. quinoa flour. These are not self-rising, so you will need to add baking powder and baking soda to them. One question for you – when you say “white flour blend,” what flours are in there? That will direct the rest of my response.

MemberHi, Marcia2013. In the Menu Planner application, near the top of the window (on the left side), you will see a button that says “User Menus” – click on that, and it will give you all your past menus by date.

MemberHi, Chia. “So Delicious” frozen desserts are great. Enjoy! 1/2 cup would be swapped for vegan frozen dessert or ice cream.
Regarding tea, regular black tea with caffeine is a diuretic (the caffeine is, actually), as are some herbal teas, i.e. juniper. Black teas are not generally recommended, not only because they are dehydrating, but also because the diuresing process leads to loss of key vitamins and minerals. If there is any chance you can make the change to white, red, or green tea, that would be best.February 2, 2013 at 8:45 pm #8159Ossie-Sharon
MemberHi, ksprietsma. Regarding your recent questions –
1. You can switch the menu days, and the days between different weeks
2. You can generally switch items in the meals with one another, just as long as you are sure to get a good source of protein in the morning, “square” meals as much as possible (i.e. a starch, protein, and fruit or vegetable), and eat the most when you are most active – in other words, don’t eat lighest at the beginning of your day and then load up at night, unless that is when you work out.
3. You can substitute skim milk and low-fat cheese for raw
Flexibility is very important in making healthy eating work, and the more you get the hang of the dietary principles, meeting your nutritional needs while meeting and maintaining your weight goals will become second nature.February 2, 2013 at 8:47 pm #8160Ossie-Sharon

MemberHi there all. My first review on a recipe. Beans and greens SWG Enchiladas. Good flavor. Directions and ingredients need readjusting. For instance the collard greens, it doesn’t say cooked, fresh, canned or frozen. I used fresh and not cooked before I used them. Also it says put in scallions but the ingredient list didn’t have them listed. My husband liked them and I could never get him to eat any kind of greens! I personally think it could cook longer as it isn’t hot but only warm when eaten. My menu had an ounce of hard cheese and tomato with the enchiladas so I chopped the tomato and shredded the cheese and put them on top. That’s good for a good ol Texas gal. Got my Mexican food fix. Making the clafouti later.

MemberI say negativity because, 1, I have not lost one pound…as a matter of fact have gained one or two. 2) my clothes feel just as tight if not tighter. It is my fault though. I am not willing to devote my time to shopping for some of this elusive food that is recommended…..still looking for SWG anything, and some of it I would not eat if I had a gun held to my head, cook particular food in a particular way, eat six times a day when I can’t even remember to eat lunch. Oh yes….and here in the USA tomorrow is Superbowl Sunday. I could care less about these over paid prima donna football players or their teams, but it is a party time exuse. I plan to eat chips and dips, have some Vodka Tonics…not with diet tonic either and even order a couple of pizzas with fat ladened pepperoni….American syle pepperoni…not bell peppers like in Italy and it will all be loaded up with a three cheese blend. I’ve spent a lot of time in Italy and they really need to learn how to make pizza like they do in New York and Chicago. Now I would like to share a “diet” I tried a while back….and it worked. Of course I was also hitting the gym three to four times a week back then. I would have a “sensible” breakfast…cold cereal, fruit, or maybe an egg beaters scramble with turkey sausage and an English Muffin…or an American Muffin, or Croatian Muffin….or whole wheat toast….preferably SWG…if you can find that stuff. I’d fill in about mid morning with a Protein Shake…ESI brand or something like that. Lunch would be a couple of tablespoons of low fat greek yogurt mixed with a couple of tablespoons of low fat cottage cheese. Maybe another protein shake if I needed it mid afternoon or another helping of yogurt and cottage cheese. then a “sensible” dinner just like some of those suggested in this diet. No Booze, sugary deserts…..in other words, Common sense. Just like here most vegies are “free” foods…I love salads with a variety of vegies and an olive oil dressing. Then once a week there was a “free day” where you could go to the buffet and pig out if you felt like it….even a dripping wet good burger with fries. That one worked for me. I really used to get turned on by the free days…LOL. However I almost got too thin. Felt like I was sitting on rocks if I rode a horse or sat on a hard surface.
Well, I hope I have not rustled any feathers. My hat is off to you that are able to follow some of the suggestions here…..the soups are great though….as long as you can find the ingredience….still looking for SWG. Someone said in the freezer section???. Also, some of you must have cooks and people to do your shopping or you devote your existance to following the Trim Down Diet suggestions. I am also in awe at some of the dissertations some of you have the time to write. (I know, I’m not doing bad this time myself) Your time might be better served if you were walking on a treadmill instead of sitting at the computer…..do as I say not as I do. I don’t mind reading suggestions or questions but I really don’t care to know all the aspects of your life events….sorry. I know that is pretty strong and I have probably made a lot of enemys already. Sooooo….I think I will try and just hang out in the background and watch, pick up any usable information submitted, try and eat sensibly, join the gym again and hope I don’t hurt myself and watch my portions. Oh yeah….enjoy those burgers on my free days too.

MemberMr.Negativity, I think the question would be, if the other diet worked so well why aren’t you still eating that way? I think that’s the rub in all this dieting business, it to find a way to eat that will work the rest of your life. At least that is what I’m hoping for. I´m just beginning and have lost a meager 2lbs., but if I can develop habits that keep this 57 year-old-lady feeling attractive and strong for the long-term I´m going for it.

MemberRaddison,
I´m not a real fan of exercise but I found a FREE App called Workout Trainer that has all kinds of workout videos, different lengths, levels of difficulty. Of course the more you want to do at the site the more you pay, but there’s enough free stuff to get started with. Good luck. - AuthorPosts
