MemberHi Apensa,
You certainly have made a name for yourself! At least on this thread 🙂
Have fun at your Super Bowl party tomorrow. It sounds like you have already set your mind on exactly what you’re going to have and just how ‘bad’ you are going to be. So, the question is, after that are you going to put on your big boy pants and man up to eating right like you know you should?!!!! Just thought I’d put that out there 😉Every single thing you do involves making a decision, it’s that simple. If you want to do this plan, on any level, that is your decision…but you’ve got to make it. You already have a handle on what works for you, or has in the past so why not try to incorporate some of that into this plan.
By the way, my husband & I do a free day every weekend and do our best to stick to the plan during the week. The further you go with putting good things in the less you want of what isn’t good for you, even when you know it’s the day to pig out!Have fun watching the game, or eating through it (& I really mean that!)

MemberHey Apensa, aren’t you in NY? Are you one of my cousins? I was just back there (unfortunately for a funeral) after having been away for a long, long time. I got to see some relatives I haven’t seen in about 25 years. They automatically remembered me as little Dory, and you just called me that even though I’m on here as Doryss…just cracked me up 🙂

MemberDory…Well, I was born in NY but moved many, many years ago. I have lots of Cousins still there and I did lose one of them on Christmas Day. I was out of the country at the time and not able to make it back for the funeral. I better say something about food, or I will really get in trouble. I had a tomato salad today for lunch. Two medium tomatos sliced and drizzled on olive oil (from Tuscany) and sprinkled with some pepper, garlic powder and oregano. Followed that up with a handfull of Pistachio nuts and some water.

MemberWell just finished my serving of the clafouti and it was very good. I would have made it a little sweeter but overall I would give it an A- husband thought it was really good and said he would be glad to have another slice. His taste buds must be changing cause he is usually the one who has to have the sweets. Well night all. Sweet dreams from Texas.

MemberHi Ossie,
We asked a couple of questions a few days ago but cannot trace any reply.
1. We thought from your ad that bananas are one of the food to avoid, but our menu planner is listing them as one of our snacks.
2. Flavourings – could a hint of curry powder be added to any appropriate meal to give more flavour.
3. We ticked beef in our menu planner, but so far are only being given fish and chicken (which I understand is better for us)., but will we eventually see any beef recipes.
Thanks – so far so good, one week down, only a little weight loss but vast improvement on my blood glucose levels as I am on both insulin and tablets for my diabetes.February 3, 2013 at 6:04 pm #8221princesskarna
MemberHi I’m Karen and I am new at this….. do I eat all the food on the menu for each day or do I just pick what is offered? It wasn’t clear.
Thanks

MemberFollow the book as well as you can, Karan and you are sure to see result. But don’t forget you can click on the little multi directional arrows at the end of the line and it will give you some alternatives. Good luck.

Memberapensa: I find with myself, if I eat off a diet, it stops the losing process and takes 2-3 days of eating right again, to start up the losing process very slowly again. So, if I would eat off every other day or a few times a week, it would ruin my diet. I would no longer be on a specific diet. I would be on “MY” diet. That’s what would make it very frustrating, but it would be my own fault 🙂 Have fun at your party and try eating lots of raw veggies and a little dip if they offer them. Veggies can be very filling. Take a bag of your own and make your own low calorie/fat dip. Nothing wrong with that. They would probably admire you for your wisdom and will power 🙂

MemberHi all!
I signed up last week but only just getting a chance to actually figure out the menu and look through the material. I’m 38, 5’8″ and 205lbs. My all time ultimate goal is to get back to 135lbs…that’s when I felt my all time best. That was 12 years ago. I’ve done weight watchers, the diet pills, meal substitutes, and obviously nothing worked. Weight watchers was my last straw…I flicked through a magazine and saw the “success stories” but then noticed the fine print “RESULTS NOT TYPICAL”. I started looking close at all the diet commericals then…weight watchers, nutrisystem, Jenny Craig, and all had that same tiny fine print. It disgusted me…I want to see typical results, not be lured in by ads that promote the atypical results that frustrate the ordinary person when we don’t reach it.So, here I am today. Last month I started walking 45 minutes on my treadmill every morning, with an alternating incline program. That was easy. But haven’t lost a single pound. I thought my diet was half decent, but when I saw the five foods to avoid video, well, oh-oh, to say the least. I was drinking a tall glass of concentrated orange juice every morning (heart-healthy one), I drink lots of diet pepsi, I use margarine (I can’t believe it’s not butter Light) instead of butter, and white bread (my mother, who lives with me bakes homemade bread once a month…VERY hard to resist). So I’ve already switched the juice, gave up the diet pepsi, and drink non-concentrated fruit juice. The bread is going to be a challenge…I only eat it with a sandwich for my lunch, and I can’t find the swg flour here, so that will be my last change. I’ll switch to butter as soon as I finish up the tub of margarine.
I eat the exact same thing for breakfast and lunch every day. I have high cholestoral and blood pressure, so last year I started eating multigrain cheerios with skim milk and either blueberries or strawberries, whichever is on sale that week. Coffee I had lots of cream and sugar…I’ve managed to wean myself off the sugar, now I’m starting to do the same for the cream. Plus the tall glass of orange juice. Lunch is a ham & swiss cheese sandwich with calorie-wise miracle whip on white bread. 2 bananas for snacks…one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Have been eating that every day for 2 years now…I work as an analyst and like routine, dislike change, so I can stick with a routine forever once I find one I like!
Water is a challenge for me – I don’t like plain water. I gave up Crystal Light because of the aspertame, and started to use MIO…is that okay? It uses Sucralose. It may be already listed but haven’t been able to find it in any articles yet. I’m also a BIG popcorn addict…how does that tie in to this plan? I usually pop the kernals in the microwave with no oil, add no salt, and a bit of margarine (soon to be butter).
Anyways, I just joined a “Biggest Loser” group at work and hope to win the money this time around! 🙂 But better than that, I hope to finally start getting some weight gone. My dad’s side of the family have heart attacks in their 40s (Dad included) and I’m getting there. Plus they often die before 60(Dad included)so I want to beat that “family curse” also.
Good luck to all other newbies who, like me, decided to make a lifestyle change that is for the better! I wish us all success!

MemberHello all,
I’m new at this, I’m not much of a big eater, I just eat the wrong things. This seems like a lot of food to eat, do i have to follow the menu as planned or can I leave some of the food out…..just wonderingFebruary 3, 2013 at 9:58 pm #8243roxxy38
MemberThanks for your response Ossie!
I am trying some new stuff and I am doing it as you say, 1-2 new items per week. I bought Ezkiel Bread, it is a little dry but I do like it. I also bought milled flax seeds. Aside from putting in baked goods (I dont bake) and shakes what else can I add it to?
Thanks,

MemberHello, everyone! Brand new(bie) tonite! Nice to have people to hash things over with!
I have a son with Autism who has benefitted tremendously from changing to a gluten-free and dairy-free diet. I went along with to ensure I could stand behind the products he was eating and feel much better myself!
So, I was happy to find some GF recipes here but I do have some questions:
Do you know about the substitution of MILLET & FLAX bread products (SAMI’s brand out of Florida) for those on the list? Would this bread be considered whole grain? White?
Also, the website claims that an OAT recipe is gluten-free but does not list the ingredient required as gluten-free oats. Oat does have gluten in it. There are GF oats available in the marketplace, however I have read the crops can be rotated in the same planting sight and suffer (undisclosed) cross-contamination.
On the dairy side of life, I have used both the non-dairy (soy) sour creme and creme cheese in recipes to replace yogurt, cottage cheese, and other creamy ingredients but I didn’t see that among the choices where nutritional value could be figured in. I use the Tofutti brand Better Than Sour Creme, and Better Than Cream Cheese. Could you tell me if they would be an even exchange in the menu?
This seems to be a well thought out program and I am looking forward to happy, healthy days ahead!
Thanks for your ear and any advice you may offer!

MemberHi, I also am new to this plan. I and my family are starting it officially tomorrow. For the last few days we have been eating sensibly and trying to eat the 3 meals and 3 snacks! As I look over the menu plan for the week it does look like a lot of food. We will see how it goes.
