The only things that I use that are not fresh are the canned tomatoes and the green beans. Sometimes I will use fresh beans but they are more time consuming to clean and cut. For some reason, fresh tomatoes just don’t do the trick. I don’t cook enough any more to have a stock pot like I used to keep going.

Hi, Chia. I reviewed your measurements and menus, and what you listed is a very, very close match. The clincher appears to be the lack of physical activity. I would recommend the following options:
    1. Take advantage of the food intake diary app on this site and record your actual intake for a couple of days (frozen dessert included) to see if there is anything hiding in your day.
    2. Consider options for physical activity that don’t hurt. There are quite a few folks in this Club who have challenges such as yours, and are finding alternative ways to burn energy and keep up their metabolisms. Aquarobics (calesthenics in a swimming pool, to take the strain off sore parts) is the most effective, but also just doing light floor exercises on a well-cushioned surface – even with your back supported by a wall – can be very effective, taking care to avoid painful areas, and working your way up to a significant amount of time each day (i.e., start with 5 minutes, then add 5 minutes each week or so). You may find that this actually strengthens your back and knees, but if you have a genuine medical condition, you may do well to consult with a physical therapist if your goal is to get in shape and feel better.
    3. You can cut 1/2 cup of oatmeal off your breakfast – a cup is plenty.
    Good luck and be well:)

Hi, Apensa. Your soup looks fantastic. As long as you try to find canned vegetables with no added salt (or at least, less sodium than usual), they are a viable option. See if you can find low-salt broth, but at least it is a free food.

    Hi Ossie,
Thanks for coming back to us.
    Our questions are:-
    1. Bananas – from your initial advert it was stated that this was one item that you should never eat, but our menu planner is giving us bananas as snacks. Can you please advise.
    2. Can I add a hint of curry powder to recipes as my husband is finding some foods a little bland.
    3. Is it OK to have a tablespoon of baked beans on the SWG bread for breakfast, as my husband is missing his baked beans.
    4. Is there anywhere on your system to enter statistics for two people, eg myself and my husband so we can keep track.
    5. Some menu items state cup of pasta, for instance, cooked. How can I adapt the dry weight prior to cooking.
We are feeling very positive and are now on week two, so far so good.

Hello all, how you all doing?
Pleased to here you’ve got someone making flour for you Seaborn, does that mean your going to be baking more? (hehe) or is is for the grandkids to bake with? Hope you had a lovely time with your daughter and son-in-law, how are the boys getting on at there new school. Must be such a change for them. Hope your walking buddy gets back in the swing of it soon, but by the sound of your aches and pains swimming would be better for you.

Apensa, LOL, back seat driver…Hows the cotton ball exercising going….await a video for that one to hit the shops (hehe). I like the sound of your soup will give it a try soon, but Stgeofun soup sounds more temping for me….something new to try with the chicken, cheers Stegofun. So glad you blood levels are better than ever too, remember freeze stuff so it doesn’t spoil.
Teade, I’m sure I’ve seen Ossie write almond milk is an other option, you can only do what is possible. I still haven’t found raw produce here, but stick to low-fat organic.

Well enjoyed my walk today, managed a full hour too. Fairy Princess outfit is nearly finished and then its on to make the underskirt, which will probably take longer than the dress, but first ironing will dancing….something I started a while back, fun and makes ironing a lot less boring for me….
    Happy healthy eating all.

Hi, Yvonne. The following are answers to your questions:
    1. Bananas were not one of the foods never to eat. They were mentioned as a good source of potassium. They are higher in sugar than most other fresh fruits, and so 1/2 is considered an equivalent to others such as a medium-sized apple.
    2. You can add as much curry (especially yellow curry) to anything and everything you want. The key component, turmeric, is one of the healthiest things in the world, and has no fat or sugar.
    3. Yes, a tablespoon of baked beans as a spread is a great idea! Just be sure they aren’t loaded with sugar and lard.
    4. Currently, the system is only made for one user at a time. If you want to post his age, height, weight, weight goal (loss or maintenance), history of dieting, and activity level, I can calculate how much he needs compared to you, so you can plan portion sizes for preparation.
    5. 1 cup of cooked pasta or rice is about 2 ounces dry.
Glad to know it is going well for you!

Thanks Ossie. The broth is low sodium and no fat. The canned veggies are the same “Less Sodium” lableled.

OSSIE: CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT HOW MANY CALORIES THERE WOULD BE IN EACH OF MY MEALS THAT I HAVE YOU TO FIGURE? I’d just like to have an idea of how many I am getting or need to lose weight with healthy foods. Thank you! 🙂

OSSIE: OOOOPS! I MADE A MISTAKE IN MY WORDS AND IT DIDN’T MAKE SENSE. “CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT HOW MANY CALORIES THERE WOULD BE IN EACH OF MY MEALS THAT I HAD YOU FIGURE?” I’d just like to have an idea of how many I am getting or need to lose weight with healthy foods. Thank you! 🙂

    Hi Ossie,
Thanks very much for your replies, we are getting better at judging what we can eat.
My husband is 6ft, weighs 262lbs (after losing 3lbs in week 1), he is 78 and not very active due to hip and knee arthritis and replacement and also a heart bypass 4 years ago. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. His target weight is as low as he can possible get it but at least 235lbs.
Thank you for all your help. I look forward to receiving your advice.

Hi, Chia. THese appear to be approximately 1600 calories, but please don’t focus on this aspect. Remember – we avoid working with calories in the program, but rather focus on you meeting your nutritional needs.

    #8470

Hi, Yvonne. Your husband probably needs about 1/3 more than you.

Hi, antiqanon42. They are called “shakes” here – enter the word “shake” in the search box in the Recipes section.
