RADISSON: We don’t eat hardly any fish at home. My husband doesn’t like it except deep fried (baked) shrimp. I do eat canned, water packed tuna though. I like some fish, cod, lobster, crabmeat, shrimp, catfish. I just don’t fix it at home. So, if I would change to using sea salt for everything, how would I get my iodine??? Do you bake with it also and use it for all cooked foods? Do you use the same amount of sea salt in recipes, as regular table salt?

Good Morning all, just a quick one!!!! as running late…

BEV, I do hope you find a better mask, it must be so draining not getting a full nights sleep. Hope you have a good weekend and enjoy smiling at church on sunday too 😀

Radisson, thanks for all the tips, now I understand why the salt I buy has ‘Sale Marino – Iodato’ but I suppose I’m lucky as I don’t like salty food so only add a little while cooking. Ground pepper and chilli are my preferred additions to food.

Sunshine, love the sound of the Morrocan hot lentil soup, will look this up see if I can manage to make it.

APENSA…oops sorry, hope you find something to make it, grovelling should work eventually.

CHAI, so pleased your back healthy eating 😀 I’ll try your rice salad when my Dads here.

KATIE, hope the supplement works for you. I worry about spending so much money on supplements even with a money back guarentee.

BERNIE, quail is something I eat, as it is an affordable option here, (italy) I cook it in my soup and then serve it with salad, yum yum. Hope you have something nice thats afforable in your part of the world.

Right, I’m even typing while I’m standing now!!!!…..I’m on a mega happy day as my folks arrive tomorrow…I will be posting less when their here..so hope you all have a wonderful weekend…and happy healthy eating for next week too.

Hi Chia – Your salad sounds good. I love salads and try to be inventive and whilst I haven’t included rice or other grains yet, I do include fruit. One of my favourites is a mixed green salad with nuts and orange segments (no dressing needed). Also love celery and apple, carrots and orange, beetroot and sweet redcurants. I also use salad in sandwhiches and pitta bread (when allowed) and one of my favourite fillings is watercress and avocado – I was scared of using avocado because it is high fat but have checked with Ossie and she says its fine.

    Hi everyone,

    Chia,

A lot of other foods contain iodine:
Cod, Baked Potato with peel, Milk, Yogurt, Shrimp,
Fish sticks, Turkey breast, Navy beans, Tuna canned in oil, eggs. Also sea salt or Kosher salt tend to bring more flavour to all foods

bernie53: Either you chose quail on your menu items or your on the automatic menu. If you don’t want any weird or expensive ingredient to show up you have to complete all of your breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack menu items and you will get more personnalized menu. Since mid-January I have amended my menu over ten times. Also you can tweak your menu by using the arrows after each items i.e. if you don’t want chicken at lunch time look Under the arrows for a replacement ingredient or fruit or vegetable. Don’t forget the free vegetable list either when you are really hungry or when you want to Munch on something.

I agree especially with italian foods and tomatoes dishes lots of red peppers, fresh ground black peppers, oregano and some stevia to balance the spicy taste.

Well I’m learning it’s far more expensive to eat healthy! Organic cream of mushroom soup is $4 vs a can of campbells for $1, organic milk is twice as much as regular skim milk, which is not cheap either…$4.30 for a 2L milk vs $1 for a 2l bottle of cola. Unfortunately I can’t afford having a grocery bill twice as much, so if the organic products are close to the same price, I’ll get it, otherwise, I just look through labels and try to get products lower in sodium or lower in fats, but at the same time watching the amount of sugar. Food has certainly become complicated!

A big thank you to whomever said they found swg english muffins in the freezer section…I never thought to check there and low and behold…swg bread, english muffins, and wraps. $5 for a loaf of bread though. I’m thinking through that one a bit. I tried making the spelt bread again, and flopped again. I just have no talent for baking.

What frustrates me is that video we all probably saw about the 5 foods to avoid, and that, if memory serves, you’ll see the pounds melt away if you avoid those foods. 3 of the 5 I eat (I don’t like soy products or corn that much), so I switched to non-concentrated juices and water, and gave up the margarine. Bread, of course, is my achilles heel in this plan. But even with that I’m not seeing any pounds melting away. I’m seeing a difference in my health…there is no denying that, but I expected a more obvious weight loss that isn’t happening.

Then I started to give a bit of thought to this. I refuse to call it a diet. To me a diet is weight watchers, or atkins, or the 17 day plan where you deprive yourself completely for a period of time, see the weight go fast, and then the weight comes back just as fast when you stop your diet. I call this a healthy eating plan…where I’m learning how to eat better so IF I ever do finally start losing weight I will have no problems keeping it off. For instance, a big change for me is coffee…used to have both cream and sugar and lots of it. Now I’m weaned off the sugar completely and just have cream. Next I’ll start weaning myelf off the cream. In fact I had a Tim’s Double Double a few days ago and couldn’t believe I used to drink that daily! It was just so sickly sweet…blech! So that change alone has removed A LOT of sugar from my diet. Hmmm, maybe I will get the swg bread and use the homemade white bread as an occasional treat! Because I think there is nothing more heavenly than white bread fresh out of the oven.

Anyways, my mothers birthday tonight so I’m shovelling out the bbq when I get home (it’s buried in a mound of snow) and putting on some t-bone steaks and making some garlic mashed potatoes (my brother and his wife are coming for supper too). And I have a birthday cake ordered from the store. Not exactly dead on the plan but I’ll watch my portions.

Wishing a great weekend to all!

Hi all of you,I am down 6 lbs since I joined. That is of today.I joined Jan. 16 so that is a ok loss.My problem is I go up and down then loose a little.I want to eat a lot then if I do not my weight will drop a little.I do not have much willpower anymore so I fall off a little then get back on the menus .My healthy food points have improved. It’s one day at a time.
I am eating whole grain bread, I’m reading labels. I bought the manna bread .It needs to live in the frig. And I do not like bread from the frig.It gets dried out even if it is in plastic. It also costs to much money.
It is a good day to grill. My son in law usually grills hamburger on Friday.I may have one this week.He gets angus lean beef at our local grocery .I could have it on whole wheat bread and be ok if I keep it small.Lots of grilled onions with it would be good.
Bev I hope your sleeping problems improve. I was asking my family what they call Aussies, they say Aussies so as far as I know we have no mean names to use.I am a southerner but Yankee is ok too.We have family in the northeast, and Midwest .We have lived in California .and Texas when we were in the Navy.Have been in Al. for the rest of the time.I live in a small town about 30 minutes from several areas to shop.We moved here 7 years ago .and have enjoyed it.You have talked of walking along the river. .Now I would like that.
Jackiee ,I hope you have a good time with the family. It is so nice to spend time with them.
I would like to speak Italian.Have not taken any languages.Do you speak many? My brother had to learn many as he was in the school of music. .
Everyone have a good weekend. Nancy

You know you can make your own soup using fat free no salt added beef or chicken broth. Combine this with any fresh veggies on the free list (includes mushrooms)and a portion of meat or fish. Much cheaper than organic and prepared in no time. Season with a dash of sea salt, fresh ground black Pepper and herbes de Provence.

Herbes de Provence mixture can be found in the spice section of supermarkets and specialty foods stores. If unavailable, use a mix of dried thyme, basil, savory, and fennel seeds.

Radisson: I thought about that after. I’ve actually never made soup myself before…other than opening a can of campbells. I was sitting at work and out of the blue I thought “It can’t be too hard to make soup is it?” I bet it’d be not only healthier but a lot taster than the instant stuff.

Oh, and thanks for adding the note about Herbes de Provence…I was about to google it. I’m starting to learn a lot about preparing food healthier… This keeps up I may surprise myself and actually start to enjoy cooking!! 🙂

slimasharon: I like all of the things you like to add to salad. The only thing I haven’t used is watercress. I also use baby spinach instead of or maybe with the different lettuces. It does make a good meal and fills you up. It’s fun to be able to make so many different salads — not so boring and it’s something to look forward to having fun making. I use barley too, in place of the rice. Don’t know if I mentioned that or not. I don’t cook the same for my husband, so I finish getting his meal done and he’s starting to eat as I finish up preparing mine. Wish we ate the same but he doesn’t need to diet. It would be so much easier.

ppeddle: The SWG loaf of bread lasts me at least 3 weeks, in the refrigerator. I don’t have it every day or even every other day. I could eat the SWG English Muffins every meal because they are so good, but I won’t do that again. They too are on the expensive side. So, I just don’t eat them real often and makes the cost of them seem more reasonable 🙂
