MemberHi everyone,
LindaWilliams: First problem with orange juice is almost all the pulp “fibre” is removed. Second and major problem is that everytime you drink orange juice your body thinks its sugar and transforms it or stores it as body fat. Third reason, if its pre packaged usually they add preservatives to keep it longer. These are chemicals or processed ingredients like sulfates, which may be harmful to your body and may be linked to allergies, high blood sugars or other serious health disorder. The simple way to get the fibre and all the benefits of the orange fruit is to eat it fresh. Even if you press it fresh, you will lose some of the fibre, but this is acceptable and much better than buying juice in the store.

MemberHello everyone; I’ve been on this plan for 5 weeks plus 4 days and have lost 7.8 lb. This is the greatest thing I’ve come across to eating properly and losing weight with great hopes of continuing this until I reach my goal and to be able to maintain that goal once I get there. I have approx. 33.2 more lb. to loose before I get where I need to be. I am thoroughly convinced that this is the way to do it. This is the help I have been looking for for many years as I have tried almost every known diet there is out there. The one time in my life where I reached my goal weight was when I was 27 yr. old ( I’m 62 as of yesterday) and that was because I was taking dance lessons and practicing almost every day and working at a Nursing home 63 hr. work weeks for 6 months or more. Then I got pregnant with my 4th child and gained 70 lb. Crazy huh? Oh well, those were the days of old and gone by. Now to look at the future. Just thought I’d share that with you all. KD

Memberpasjj5 well done to you with your weight loss.
I look forward to being as good as you although I don’t need to loose as much as you do you are an inspiration.

MemberOssie Please respond.
I have made the breakfast berry and bean muffins. They turned out great and taste yummy. I did replace the avocado oil with olive oil. (Is that OK). The other thing is the adzuki beans. I found some dried adzuki beans in a health food store (in Australia). I measured out a cup and tried to place them on the top of the muffins. No mention of putting them in the mixture. While they were cooking they became even drier and fell off the top. I noticed somewhere about the beans being in a jar. Does that mean we have to cook them first??? Definitely could not use up a cup by placing them on the top. HELP PLEASE!!!!!March 7, 2013 at 9:56 pm #9792r2b2
MemberDawnrosie – so pleased you are back. Great you are settled and happy in your new home. I haven’t been keeping up with the news as I have been too busy. Also it takes so much time organizing my meals especially as I have been cooking. Not the weather though. The temperature has been high for the last week and we still have a few days to go. 100 degrees F.
I have baked the butternut and broccoli muffins, yummy, the berry and beans muffins, lemon cottage cheese muffins and also the banana cake. I have them in the freezer and as I am preparing for the day just grab whatever I need before I walk out the door. Need more muffin recipes they are so easy to store and use.March 7, 2013 at 11:21 pm #9795trking
MemberHello, all … I’m definite a newbie here. I was just diagnosed in January with Type 2 Diabetes, with sugar count of around 275, cholesterol around 250 … and high blood pressure …. YAY! (NOT!) I am so thankful I got diagnosed the way I did … it’s a long story, but, I truly think God intervened, because had He not, I would still be eating the wrong way.
This was around January 9th, and my weight at that time was 307. BP was around 144/88 or something around there …. I know the first number was 144.
I can honestly say that my diet was TERRIBLE … comprised of fast food, pasta, candy, and the likes …
Since I was diagnosed, I got a glucose meter, and was put on several medications: Metformin, Glimepride, Arcabose, Lisinoprin (blood pressure med) ….
I have taken and continue to take this very serious … I have cut out all processed foods, sodas, etc. and have pretty much been eating fish, JuicePlus, veggies, and meal replacement sort of smoothies ….
As of January, my blood sugar has dropped down to an everage of 96 … It took me about 2 1/2 weeks to get it around 120 … and from there, have continued to drop it …. I feel a ton better and I’m not perspiring like I was …. It was terrible, folks … and I honestly didn’t know what was going on … but I had a suspicion … especially when prior blood tests showed me pre-diabetic … but, I didn’t take THAT serious ….
I’m glad to be here … although, I am just getting started with this. Tomorrow, I have a dr appointment to draw blood …. (it’s a new doctor), after being on my meds for roughly 2 months …. When I saw my new dr a month ago, I weighed 297, and was completely jazzed when I lost 10 pounds …. 🙂 I am scheduled to see him again, tomorrow, and will see how much more weight I’ve lost …
I joined this site, to primarily “learn” more about myself and to be encouraged by all of you…. I’m married, no kids, 2 dogs, a few nephews and nieces who all think I’m the greatest uncle … and to be honest …. I want to be around … for a long time …. I realize that perhap the diabetic part isn’t my fault, and most likely genetic …. but, the poor eating habits are totally on my shoulders ….
My brother in law and father in law have diabetes too … and my brother in law most recently was rediagnosed with type 1 … so now he has injections ….
I have roughly 125 more pounds to lose …. and I will do it…. and when I lose 75 more pounds, I will go back to my original dr. and give her a great big hug for saving my life … or giving me a second chance on life … because it really boils down to diabetes slowly killing me with the way I was eating vs. doing something about it and taking control.
So … thanks for taking the time to read this and I’m really thankful I’m here.
Tim

MemberMorning all…I have been taking a break from everything, but reading the comments, and very excited to see you pop up again DAWNROSIE…glad all is going well for you and you are settling into your new home and area.
R2B2…yeah love those beans needed to be soaked for about 8 to 10 hours and then cooked. Just google them and you will find a few sites that will explain. See you still haven’t had a lot of rain down your way…we are getting lots up here, with more coming by the looks of things….cyclone Sandra is taking a good look at us all, eyeing us all up…is she comes, it will be disaterous for many again.
Good to see so many doing so well.
PASJJ5
BERNIE53…good on you both…doing well.
Welcome to all the Newbies….good to have more on board.
LINDA WILLIAMS….I think the younger ones are hearing us love, but I don’t think they realise that time runs away so quickly….our families are probably the ones who will realise as they watch us go through the things we do. I have found my very laid back daughter (she is like me) is actually making some new decisions about what she is eating and drinking and giving her children. She is tall and slim, but realising that I once was slim too (but short..lol), and didn’t do something about keeping that way early enough. Trouble is they also don’t realise that even young, slim people can be afflicted with back and hip problems, arthritis, and accidents that will prevent them from being able to keep that weight from gradually attaching itself to their bodies, and slowing them down early in life.Ah such is life hey? Anyway, all the best with the plan Linda.
I am struggling to get enough sleep with my sleep apnea mask…changed it yesterday to a larger size. Was getting headaches and it was a bit firm on my nose so had to breathe through my mouth more. Slept a bit better last night, but it will take time to get used to having it on. The machine is lovely and quiet, which is a plus. But got no energy again, so struggling to eat all the food, which is what I need to do to get the energy up again I guess.
Anyway, I have a long road ahead of me to lose my weight…so I better get cracking!!! Lol…
Hope you are doing okay JACKIE….and LINDA…and KATIE..and GINGER.
I always enjoy reading everyone’s comments…you all keep me motivated.
Have a great night, afternoon, morning, day…wherever you all are….Bev.March 7, 2013 at 11:42 pm #9797Seaborngirl
MemberTRKING…TIM…just read your into. Good to have you on board mate. I have two brothers with diabetes in a “big” way, and my husband as well, but he manages his very well. Over the past year he has gone from 128 kilos down to 113 kilos, just by watching what he eats, but makes up his own form of diet!!! Lol… He is just beginning to catch on to Trim Down’s way, after his last visit to the doc..she must have encouraged him to give it a go with me. But he is doing well, and will soon be down to his goal of about 85 to 90 kilos…I wish I could lose it like he does. My brothers have had the same attitude that you have had, and are not doing well. So, I am behind you on your journey with Trim Down mate…cheering you on!! All the best…and enjoy the cruise with us all…Bev.

MemberHi, r2b2. You can definitely substitute olive oil for avocado oil. As for the recipe, yes the adzuki beans should be cooked.

MemberHi, bjeRK41e. Half a pot of coffee is a bit much, as it drains your body of minerals and some vitamins, and can pose a risk for osteoporosis and wreaking havoc with your metabolism. If you are interested in cutting back, do so gradually – cold turkey can be a bit rough.

MemberMost of the juices from concentrate are not 100% juice – that is the issue. Also, fresh-squeezed tends to have much more fiber.

MemberHi everyone, good news today I took time to hunt around the supermarket and I found stevia liquid and powder so I am going to be able to do some baking after all.
I am feeling way positive about this change in diet and have never ever felt so full that I am not wanting to nibble on anything.
Have a wonderful stress free weekend.
