Hi, ukjaiswar. First, thanks for being a nurse! Second, no worries. As long as you don’t eat less than 3 meals per day, you can adjust your eating patterns in whichever way is comfortable – some options:
    1. If you’re not a diabetic, you can add your snacks to your meals, either as is, or according to food groups. For example, if you have “cold cuts” in your snack, you can just have that much more meat at a main meal.
    2. If you are a diabetic, you swap in protein exchanges instead of starchy carb exchanges when you make your main meals bigger.
    3. Since most nurses are allowed to have beverages with them at nearly all times, you can “drink” your snacks – put hearty shakes and/or soups in thermoses, and sip between meals. We have an extensive collection of both.

Hi, I am new to the TrimDown Club. One of the reasons I joined was because I my eating habits are aweful! I try to eat at least 3 small meals a day….but in reality I keep going back to one meal and junk. How can I get more regimentated to eat more durning the day, and building the discipline to stay away from junk food (sweets)? I am concerned about getting diabetes, and whatever weightloss programs I have done in the past (weight watchers) I end up gaining a LOT more weight than I lose.

Hi, LSholts, and welcome. Many people have your story! I honestly recommend that you ease into this program, making small steps until you are comfortable with each stage. The steps will add up and may culminate in a lifestyle where healthy behaviors are second nature. This may very well include not depriving yourself, because that is often a recipe for failure.
It comes down to the reason you keep ending up going back to one meal per day and how you handle your craving for sweets – then start experimenting with solutions. If you would like to work through it here, I am happy to help.

Please do update us. I just started a few days ago. I am having a hard time trying to figure out how the site works. The activity on this group that I can see is 7 months old! So it is nice to see there really is someone else. Maybe I just don’t know how to use the groups. I joined Trim Down for the support, so this has been very frustrating and disappointing. Much success to you!

I can’t seem to use this TDC site yet. I tried to “Contact you” and of course I can’t seem to. I’d like to ask you a couple questions that are not on your list. 1. How do I change my name? The form asked for name and I gave my name! I did not know that I should have made one up. 2. How do you find an active group? I can find only two. One the most recent entry is from me. And the other is from a lady that states the purpose of the group. 3. I have gotten a few emails that say they are from TDC (like Noods today). I can’t tell if they are from TDC employees or members. How do you respond &/or contact them? I joined primarily for the support. How do you get current support? Is there a way to find them other than sorting through all of them one at a time?

Hi, Jobob, and welcome! Don’t worry about being perfect, just do the best you can. Just ease into it, and let the little changes add up.

I am having difficulty eating all the meals on the plan. I am losing weight very slowly, however, I do feel much better. Most important, my blood sugar is much lower at all time of the day. I am exercising about about 4 days out of the week & generally staying more active. Can I cut out any of the food on the plan?

    #33838

Hi, Faye. That’s great to read! Yes, you can cut back a little if you wish. We recommend to start with the starchier carbs. If that won’t work for you, please do repost.

I am a diabetic who just started on your menu plan. I have experienced low blood sugar after riding my stationary bike for just 25 minutes today. I usually bike 40-45 minutes/day. Do I need to adjust my menu plan for exercise?

I’m going to be trying to get into a regular routine with the meal plans. I work night shift 6pm to 6am in a jail. I work 3 days on…2 off..2 on…then 3 off. I sleep nights when I’m off and days when I work. I like the idea of eating 6 small meals. When I’m working, I only eat at work. I usually bring 1 “dinner” then snack the rest of the night. My snacks have gone from candy bars and cokes to fruits, crackers, cheese, yogart… veggies with dressing etc… I’m also type 2 diabetic and take 42 units of Lantus each day and between 6 and 10 units of Novolog to cover any carbs I eat. I don’t go over 45 in a meal. I’m drinking my required amount of water too. I spoil myself and get bottled water that I really enjoy. I haven’t had a coke or candy bar in over 6 weeks. I’ve been behaving myself. I’m hoping to meet other diabetics here.
