MemberI am on a very strict low Calcium Oxalate diet, which means I can not have whole grains, nuts or soy, among other plant products. I am wanting to lose weight, but staying pain free from the oxalate crystals is my top priority. Is there a way I can make the recipes you have with white flour, I’m not sure of the ratio for substitution.
To find out about the Oxalate content in foods, you can google it, info on why it causes some people pain the website http://www.thevpfoundation.org is the best sourceMay 21, 2013 at 12:08 am #11837Ossie-Sharon
MemberHi, khariann. Hopefully you are under medical supervision for your condition. The advantage of this program is that it is flexible and you choose the foods. I would just like to add that avoiding calcium oxalate crystals involves a few more food issues – see here http://www.med.umich.edu/intmed/nephrology/docs/stones.pdf – as well as a recommendation to drink a lot of water, preferrably filtered.
You can substitute white flour for whole wheat or sprouted whole grain (SWG) at a ratio of 1:1 without any problems. To substitute for almond flour/meal, add 3 Tbsp. oil to every cup of regular flour that replaces a cup of almond flour.
Since this program is based on high-protein, I would be happy to help individualize your pattern for you so that it does not exceed the recommended limit for you. All I need for now is your age, height, weight, and physical activity level, as well as a typical day that you received from the Menu Planner. - AuthorPosts
