MemberI made some chutney the other day using 1.5lbs cooking apples as the main base, then added 1 large parsnip, 1 medium carrot, 1 small and 1 large onion, 5ozs of raisins and some caulifower. I used cider vinegar because I can’t use malt or any other type of vinegar and I added 3 tsps of the 100% pure green leaf stevia powder and of course various spices. It made 3 big jarfuls I wasn’t too sure about it until this morning because it had quite a kick because of the cider vinegar but it has really mellowed out and the big question is how much can I have in a day? I haven’t had any chutney, tomato sauces, etc for 20 odd years because of the sugar and vinegar in the store bought ones and I can see myself spooning it out the jar lol. If necessary could I swap a portion of fruit out for it?

MemberHi, AnnaH. Absolutely! 1/2 cup would be a fruit serving.

MemberI have been wondering what Chutney was. I asked in the grocery stores and they couldn’t seem to help me. What stores can I find it in? Need help as there is nothing on my list to exchange it for.

MemberHello fmatson after some research it appears that chutney and relishes are about the same. Please jump in Sharon and correct me if I’m wrong.
Relish is in the Noon section, of the menu planner under Carbs > Spreads, Sauces, Condiments etc
I found chutney in the Snacks section of the menu planner near the bottom under the heading Check at least 2 snacks > Spreads, Sauces, Condiments etc
If I’m correct it maybe that your stores are more familiar with Relish. Store bought chutneys do have sugar in them as do Ketchup etc. It is very easy to make here is a link to a recipe I found yesterday http://www.thesweetbeet.com/10-minute-chutney/ if you want a sugar free one.November 8, 2013 at 4:54 pm #16338Ossie-Sharon
