MemberAny type of whole grain pasta can be used instead of brown rice pasta – that includes quinoa as well as spelt.

ParticipantIs there any way to determine if the meals I am eating are meeting the healthy 80 range that is recommended. I basically am using the meal planner, but when there is something I don’t like or feel like having, I subtitute a different meal that would have a similiar makeup. I just started the program a few days ago and find it really easy to follow other than the fact that I don’t know if I’m staying in the right range (or going too far under or too far over)

MemberTo what are you referring when you say “healthy 80 range”?
As for the changes you make to the menu, they sound fine, and will probably help you follow a healthy pattern more consistently.November 15, 2012 at 6:35 pm #3024younismo
ParticipantHello. I have 2 questions:
1. For the free day in the week, is it only “lunch” that we can eat freely, or the whole menu (for the entire day) eating freely, because is says here: Go crazy once a week! Replace your lunch menu with anything you like, but remember to eat slowly and enjoy your meal. This may come in handy while on vacation or attending an event.
2. For the chicken and steak, are the ounces (weight) after they’ve been cooked, because they change by about an ounce and a half after they have been cooked. Thanks

MemberFor the free day, the “lunch” was just an example of a meal – you can choose any meal with which to “go crazy”. It is best to try not to overdo too much, even on a “free” day, as it simply is not healthy (even if you don’t gain weight).
As for the meat – we refer to raw meat, but because we recommend the leanest and most unprocessed possible, there won’t be much of a difference when cooked (certainly not the 30% seen in some beef products).November 15, 2012 at 9:16 pm #3030younismo
ParticipantSo I can only replace one of the meals on the “free day”, and not eat freely the entire day?
Thank you

MemberWithout knowing what you’re capable of eating in a whole day, I’m being conservative and saying one meal. But usually even a whole day of “free” eating won’t derail an entire diet.

MemberI’m brand new and haven’t begun yet because I’m still trying to figure it out. I am a teacher and only get 25 minutes for lunch daily. I also do not have breaks for snacking. I tried to do the meal planner, but there is no way I can cook all of those recipes and take it to school, much less have time to heat up the meals. I don’t understand the 0-100 idea, and cannot find anywhere on the website where it is explained. I do not understand how the portions are determined either. I’m afraid this is more difficult than I can handle.

MemberNo need to choose the recipes in the Menu Planner – you can just choose the regular foods that do not need a lot of preparation and can be portable with containers – i.e. breads and crackers, cheeses and beans, fruits and vegetables. Don’t worry about the number score as long as you follow the pattern suggested in the Menu Planner results.

MemberI can’t seem to find my “meal planner results. and…how do I know I’m in that 80-100 range? Also, if I’m creating my own weekly menus, is there anywhere on the website where I can list it? I’m having difficulty navigating.

ParticipantI was wondering what to do if I don’t like the taste of Stevia as a sugar substitute, can I use organic brown sugar or honey to sweenten desserts?
November 27, 2012 at 8:33 pm #3201Ossie-Sharon
MemberNon-sugar natural alternatives to Stevia include monkfruit sweetener (non-caloric, less aftertaste) and xylitol (low-caloric, no aftertaste).
