What is Stevia please?
Stevia (rebaudiana) is an herb that is naturally many, many times sweeter than sugar, but without calories or an impact on dental health, blood sugar, or lipids (triglycerides, cholesterol). It is available in its purest form (i.e. “Sweet Leaf”), as a powder, or as a syrup. It does have an aftertaste that takes some getting used to.
Alternatives with less of an aftertaste that are just as recommended by the program include monkfruit sweetener (also plant-based) and xylitol (a natural sugar alcohol).
