I read that eating Ghee can help to encourage your body to burn fat. Is this true? Why?

I am trying to lose weight. My meal plan recommends drinking full fat milk. What is the reason for this? Why is full-fat milk preferred over semi-skimmed milk?

If consuming Ghee is beneficial, how much do you recommend in one serving of this fat?

Would you recommend eating Ghee every day?

Hi, Raisay. Ghee can be good in general, especially if it is pastured (made from milk from cows who eat grasses from pastures). It doesn’t burn fat so much as using it instead of an artificial buttery spread like regular margarine can reduce a barrier to natural fat-burning. You can certainly eat it everyday, and each teaspoon (5 ml) is a fat exchange, just like regular butter or an oil.
Regarding milk, the issue with skim milk is that milk solids are added to optimize texture and color lost when the fat is removed, and these solids are highly oxidizable (create harmful free radicals).

Does lactose free whole milk have free radicals? I can’t buy organic lactose free milk.

Would this margarine be okay to eat:

It doesn’t seem to have trans fats

Does fat free cottage cheese (I.e. Ricotta) have free radicals? Is it best to eat full fat cottage cheese?

Hi, Raisay. Lactose-free milk should be fine if it isn’t skim/fat-free. In general, it is best to eat full-fat dairy (including ricotta and cottage cheeses).
With regard to the margarine you posted, it’s better than the old-fashioned types for sure. Better choices use coconut and olive oils instead of sunflower and palm.
