Hello I really need help getting off sugary foods like cake and cookies. I am addicted to baked goods and I would love some guidance on how to start weaning myself off. My most difficult time is right after a meal especially an evening meal. I am about 10 lbs over weight is all. Thanks a bunch!

Hi, allirish. Try gradually reducing the portion size – a little each night. Try also making healthier options, and preportioning them and wrapping up each portion, so that you don’t pinch and poke at the whole amount. Once you’re finished with your portion, try brushing your teeth and then distracting yourself with a non-food activity that you like as much as sweets. If the temptation gets to be too much, try sipping on a warm beverage that is flavored like a baked good (say, vanilla or cinnamon tea or coffee, regular or decaffenated) sweetened with a high-quality low-carb sweetener such as Stevia with erythritol.

Hi, I have a sugar issue too. This is the end of week two for me. At first i was so full i did not want sugar and i am not hungry. However as my body adapts I find myself longing to chocolate and sweets. i know this is emotional and not biological but is there any advice for how to manage these urges? I know my will power will go away and i do not want to binge.

Hi, Ericka58. You don’t have to give those things up, just budget for them. Select them in the Menu Planner food lists and be sure to click on the adjacent heart icon, and these will appear in your evening snack.
