MemberHi, I’m just getting started and using the 14 day meal plan. I’m not use to using ‘cups’ to measure so I would like to know if there is a conversion to grammes or ounces. I think that a cup is 8oz dry weight – is that correct?
I was using the menu to have lunch today:
1 cup of Whole Grain Pasta (cooked)
2 ounces of Brick Cheese, low-fat
1 cup of Mixed Green Salad
1 Tbsp Organic Low-Fat Dressing
is the cup used to measure the pasta before or after it is cooked?
Thanks
Mark

MemberHi, Mark. Yes, you are correct – 8 oz dry weight. With regard to your other questions here, one ounce is about 30 grams, and the pasta (and any other similar carbohydrate food) on your menu is cooked.

MemberBecause I’m not used to using the cup measure is there a guide to what measure of dry pasta, rice etc to use? If I measure a cup of dry pasta or rice then cook it there will be food left over! How do you judge how much to cook?

MemberHi,
I also had a bit of difficulties with the measurements at the beginning.. but I found a helpful page here.
Maybe it helps you too: http://www.trimdownclub.com/reducing-the-size-of-recipes/May 12, 2014 at 9:58 am #20150Gogledd
MemberThanks ManyM, that page is helpful. I’d still like to know how you judge a cup of pasta or rice before you’ve cooked it!

MemberHi this is Caroljane a new member. I have written in regarding “cups” measurements for all foods other than liquid foods and asked for the equivalent weights in pounds. So far all I have received back is a table for liquids!! Not any use at all! All solid weight foods weigh differently when converted from Cups to ounces. I was so pleased to read that I am not the only one who has trouble with this very strange way of measuring.

MemberHi, CarolJane. Try our exchange lists here – they translate solid US measurements into metric: http://www.trimdownclub.com/exchanges-lists.

MemberHello
I am also a newbie. I do not have a food scale, so I am trying to figure out how to convert “2 ounces of nut butter” into teaspoons. Any ideas?

MemberHi, ShellyG. 2 ounces of nut butter = 12 teaspoons (1/4 cup).

MemberI also have a question about measuring in cups. If I need 1 cup of strawberries, is that equivalent to 8 ounces of Strawberries. If I put the strawberries in a 1 cup measuring cup I come up with fewer strawberries than if I measure out 8 ounces of strawberries. Thanks for the advice because I want to make sure I start right in order to get maximum benefit from this way of eating.

MemberHi, MSGTRXCPA. One cup of strawberries weighs about 155 grams, or 5.5 ounces.
