MemberHello
I just joined and am trying to lose weight sensibly with veggies, breads, eggs, fruits and nuts.
I’m trying to completely give up anything in bread that’s considered bad (ie, turns to sugar and thus stores fat). I’ve read that sprouted grain bread with no refined flour is the answer. Particularly Ezekial bread. I’m not able to find any of that in the St. Louis area. In my local store, they carry this brand of Organic bread called “Dave’s killer bread” so I bought a loaf of that and was wondering if this falls into the category of a healthy bread alternative to all of the other breads in the store that contain refined flour, etc.. I’m trying to find a bread that will keep my glycemic index lower and not turn into fat after I eat it.
Now the thing that concerns me slightly is that it contains “Organic whole wheat flour” and I’m not sure if this is the same as “sprouted grain” like the Ezekial bread.
Anyone care to elaborate or share if they think this is a good bread alternative for weight loss or if it’s just “more sugar in disguise”?

and a product review
Ingredients is all organic but I do see “Canola oil” in there which I’ve read is not good?

thanks in advance

MemberHi, tkousek. Dave’s isn’t made with sprouted grain, but the whole grains and other ingredients make it excellent anyway.

Memberthank you for your response. I did notice that “Dave’s Killer Bread” also comes in the sprouted grain kind too. The store was out of that so I got the other kind. It’s a great tasting bread tho.
I found a store that carries Ezekiel bread yesterday and bought two loaves and put 1 in the freezer for later on. Each loaf weighs like a brick, only 80 calories per slice and 100% sprouted grain.
It’s kind of dry so I like to break it apart and dip it into pure Olive Oil (like they do at the Olive Garden) -or- melt some pure butter on it.
Since going on this diet about a week or so ago, I notice I don’t “overly salt” my foods anymore and I have lost cravings for sugar cookies, etc.. Doing veggies, fruits, this bread with Olive Oil+Butter, non-GMO oatmeal and a handful of walnuts or almonds.
Also doing a morning dose of 3 cloves of raw chopped garlic and washing it down with a cup of lemon juice (freshly squeezed with 1 lemon in water) as I saw that’s good for weight lose/reducing belly fat and increasing energy. Might even help with my IBS.
thanks, Theron!

Memberforgot to mention, it was the Sprouted Grain Ezekiel bread that I found as they carry non-sprouted grain Ezekiel bread products there too. I’ll follow your advice and do the sprouted grain all the time.
Also, thanks for your advice on the non-GMO oatmeal. I bought quaker oats but did not realize that they might be using GMO. So I found organic oats and am using that..
Amazing that products in the stores use GMO and refined flour and still manage to label themselves as “Healthy”. I notice some of the “Healthy Choice Soups” are not really healthy at all.
Some of the articles here have opened up a whole new world for me.
thanks

MemberHi friends, Just joined in and I am trying out some of the menus before I really get into the groove. My office date will be Monday which makes my planning easier then starting at the end of the week. I guess I will figure out all this as I go along. Glad there are people to answer questions.
I wanted to let you know that Dave’s Killer Sprouted bread toasted is a million times better than most of the others I have tried. I have been eating it for some time now. FYI if you have a Costco near you I have purchase 2 loaves at a super price compared to most supermarkets.
