MemberSharon, I’ve just started making kefir water. I’m planning on drinking it first thing in the mornings and some in the evenings. I have been drinking 6 ozs water first thing in the mornings with fresh squeezed lemon juice. Could I squeeze the lemon into the kefir water or would that alter either’s benefits?

MemberHey Labell and welcome.
Here is a site for instructions. http://wellnessmama.com/2261/water-kefir-soda/ And I ordered my grains from the site listed there. http://store.kombuchakamp.com/ The grains come already hydrated, two tablespoons and ready to use. You’ll need 3 0r 4 mason jars, a nylon or plastic strainer, tap well water works good and sugar. http://www.culturesforhealth.com/water-kefir-ingredients Have these ready and start making it as soon as you get the kefir grains. I like it unflavored but here is a site for flavoring it if you want. http://blog.culturesforhealth.com/tips-for-carbonating-fermented-beverages/ I have only been making it for 2 weeks but did a lot of reseach so may be able to help if you need. Good luck with all.November 18, 2015 at 5:53 pm #33043turtlehurder
MemberSharon, about the kefir water, I have become to love the taste and have started drinking more daily. Can you tell me, if fermented correctly, is it fattening at all? Is there a daily recommended intake? Also, when is the best times of the day to drink it? Do I need to take a break from drinking it ever so often?

MemberHi, Turtlehurder. Kefir is wonderful, and I would encourage you to keep drinking it. It is only as “fattening” as the basic material and if your overall daily intake of everything is more than you burn off.
