This is an odd and probably question. So here goes: I need to follow a diet that would be low fiber if at all possible. Due to Crohn’s and Colitis for 30 years, I now have a ileostomy. This is very similar to a colostomy, in that I wear an outside appliance (bag) for collection of bowel waste. Obviously, since I have no colon, it isn’t necessary for high fiber. In fact, high fiber can cause blockages, and can be a very serious problem. Therefore, I have to watch my intake of fiber, but, I can have somme fiber, in moderation. The foods which aren’t recommended are the foods that are recommended for patients with this appliance. Thus, the weight game. I have gained 60 lbs. in 6 months, I probably need some help from your nutritionist. I am dedicated to make this work for me, just need some help that I don’t see listed, if possible.

Hi, Doivey01. For people just like you, we have included some low-fiber “white” items in the Menu Planner lists, and you can choose your own vegetables along the way according to your tolerance, i.e. avoiding gas-producing ones, cooking them to reduce the fiber content, etc. This has probably done a number on your hormones, so a couple of steps you can take are to make sure you get good sources of protein – in fat, you can swap out some of the refined carbohydrates for proteins – especially proteins with probiotics. Further, you can use oils that are higher in monounsaturated fatty acids, such as olive, macadamia nut, hazelnut, or avocado, which can help your metabolism, and omega-3 fatty acids, such as almond, flax seed, chia seed, and organic canola, to help tone down the inflammation. Finally, exercise is very, very important. If you would like some guidance here, please do repost, and I will get back to you.
